Brexit 18-25 year old vote

Considering the bbc keeps reporting that young people wanted to stay in the eu they couldn't have been that bothered as only 32% of 18-25 that were eligible to vote actually voted

That's because they could not vote on an I Phone outherwise it would have been a lot more! and most of them don't get out of bed untill the polling booths were closed.

Actually there is no accurate data on the age group, the report giving that was based on projected figures and is not a true figure

I've been wondering about this myself...they say a certain percentage of youngsters, or pensioners, or whoever, voted a certain way...but how on EARTH can anyone make that call?!

Yes - they could tell how many people in certain age ranges didn't vote by looking at the people who aren't crossed off on the register...but if these ballots are anonymous, how on earth can they project voting figures across 33 million votes on the basis of a poll of 1000 or even 10000?!!! If they'd poll a vote of all the members of my immediate family, they'd have been reporting a 100% vote in one particular way!!!

Ridiculous! A bit like the "tv viewing figures" in years gone by...50 people surveyed were watching Coronation Street, therefore 7.3 million were doing the same...

Best thing to do is just take all reported figures with a very large pinch of salt...!

I don't think you can take the 28% of the population who DIDNT VOTE ,with a pinch of salt. What happened to you all? Did you all oversleep ? This was the most important vote in your lives!! and you just couldn't be bothered.

IN Australia voting is compulsory and you are fined if you don't have a reasonable excuse (note from your mum).
The result is a turnout around 95% which gives a much fairer result.
Also, in general elections, they vote on a proportional representation basis so that votes are allocated preferences giving, again, a fairer result
However, saying that it's another hung parliament down under which means libs and lab gave to grovel to loony left and far right to get to grab power. It's quite sickening to see
Democracy can be a pain, what we need is a beneficial dictatorship

From the latest stats (if you believe).

Majority of under 50 year olds voted in.
Majority of 50-64 year olds voted leave.
Majority of 64+ year olds voted leave (moreso than above).

Saw an interesting Sky News program yesterday - with families and children and their parents voting opposite ways.

Demographically, those in poorer areas and those in council accommodation voted leave. Those in wealthier areas voted in.

Real split in the country old vs young (yes more young people should have voted) & (taken to the extreme) rich vs poor.

Worrying - if we put the rich vs poor to one side for a moment. Many (including myself) feel wronged by their parents or the older generation as feel opportunity and jobs within the eu + instability of economy will cause damage which will affect everyone. Just my opinion. My business has benefitted from the EU and this is not the only business I have had which has benefitted from being within the EU. Red tape? None - shipping equipment in the EU - no paperwork. Simple. Those of the generation older than myself - majority of which are retired / money in the bank, will not have much affect on their future - certainly not the impact of the younger generations.

Rich vs Poor? This is where it can seem to get a little nasty. Many of the people I saw interviewed reasons for Brexit were more of anger, immigration and inaccurate information, much of which has proven to be incorrect. Much has also said the relation of poverty and the intelligence of those voters. It is wrong to assume that if poor, you are stupid. This is not true. However it is a reasonable assumption that a percentage of people sitting in council estates, never having worked are not the brightest and nor would I feel they represent everyone - especially given (some) peoples lack of any contribution to society.

Ultimately I believe much of this was a 'finger up' to the man. Which is fine, apart from all the warnings of economic issues were almost swept to one side. Additionally warnings given from non political experts and bodies were also completely ignored by many.

I do understand issues with areas such as Dudley, where population has doubled in 10 years, due to immigration - that is a big change to accept. However people are filled with hatred and wrong information. 91% of council housing is awarded to UK residents, with 9% for immigrants.

Such a shame, the entire result seems to boil down not to complex issues within the EU that need reviewing / improving, but one of simple 'keep out Johnny foreigner' - UK has taken a step backwards in some ways, as those filled with hate in their hearts, seem to feel vilified at the out vote and are now we are seeing this horrible increase in hate crimes and verbal abuse those with non white skins are suffering.

In some ways, I am glad to be out of the UK now - I just hope I am not forced to go back and live there any time soon.

how many people are out the country at anyone time? i think the voting system should be updated. move with the times instead of just putting an X on a piece of paper. sometimes for whatever reason some people just cant get to the voting booths.

Thats why you can do a postal vote or a proxy vote...
