The vast majority of you decided to leave England, for whatever reasons, and as far as I am concerned have no right to get upset when those who remained want to change the future of the country they live in. I am sure if you really want you could become Spanish citizens and remain “Europeans”.
Life is full of choices, you pay’s your money and takes your chances…

Yes, I chose to come & live in Spain because I couldn't afford to live comfortably in UK on just a pension.
The UK pension is one of the lowest in Europe (24th I believe) - & of course I have paid into it all my life so am entitled to it.

I am one of the fortunate ones that have lived in Spain for less than 15 years, so I could vote, but there are another 2 million ex-pats who were denied the vote because of the time limit. A time limit that was promised to be removed in 2016 prior to a referendum in 2017! BUT the referendum was rushed through withb undue haste.

SO the 'democratic vote' was not representative of the population that would be affected - also it might have been as well to include 16 - 18 yr olds in UK (as Scottish do) as they'll also be the most affected by the decision.

And when in 1975 UK had last IN or OUT referendum, the government was at pains to explain beforehand that referenda are only indications to the government on what people want, but it is ip to the government to implement any changes at their discretion.
(This was in the event of it being close.)
As it was the result then was 2 to 1 in favour of remaining in.
Also then there were lots of hard facts presented to the voters.

This campaign has been really flawed by lies & scare tactics, so how can anyone say it was a fair referendum?
And for those of us ex-pats surviving on UK pensions, the result has seen the pound going into free fall meaning our pensions have too.

If the referendum had been thought through and played on an even playing field with all voters knowuing the actual facts and the effected ex-pats allowed to vote too, then I would happily respect and accept the result. BUT we are now left with the fact that many are paying for something they could not vote for.
Do you know who said "No taxation, without representation?"

SO NO it was NOT democracy, it was manipulation & the result is a county that is divided & being taken over by racist, xenophobic bigots who are scaring the legitimate EU immigrants who live in UK.

Martin the artist. excellent post, my feelings completely. I believe the UK will still be an important part of the EU maybe under a different name. Too much integration for a clean split.

Another deluded little island englander who thinks England = United Kingdom. Perhaps us who are intelligent enough and lucky enough not to be will be able to remain European by other means.

Life is full of choices-you have obviously made your and good luck with it. You are going to need it.

Well this morning, old Boris has said that he doesn't believe anyone voted for Brexit because they were worried about immigration - it was all about control and sovereignty. He's also said that "British people will still be able to go and work in the EU; to live; to travel; to study; to buy homes and to settle down." and the UK will continue to have access to the single market. He's also said that the ONLY thing that will change is a reduction in bureaucracy.
Well if he's that sure that the rest of the EU will agree to that, can you see what's coming next?

Obviously someone doesn't know that you need to have been resident in Spain for a minimum of 10 years before you can even apply for citizenship. And that many of us on certain pensions still pay rather a lot in taxes to good old UK (Not the English) tax man. In my case almost £4000 a year plus interest on my savings in UK as well.
Now, what was that American thing again? Oh, yes, no taxation without representation. (Might as well use it as the buffoon pair of Bojo and Farage have use the Americanism of "independence day".)

I find all the post´s interesting, from the insulting to the thoughtful.
Lets look at the position today, the pound has collapsed, share prices have fallen dramatically, and we are not talking about rich city bankers, it´s what rules the world whether you like it or not.
Credit agencies have downrated the UK, again, like it or not, etc.
We have no goverenment who can govern, we have no opposition, we are flapping around still banging on that it will be alright on the night.

AND FOR WHAT I ask, Farage and crew have fostered an anti immigrant feeling that so many people have jumped on, we have seen today the graffiti etc, I know its a very small minority, but they are taking the vote as a legitimacy to do this. I was asked in another post was I ashamed to be English. When I see this YES I am.

Personally I really think the UK has shot itself in the foot.
As far as this post is concerned, I have held meetings with various political figures, my solicitor and some business directors. The general concensus is that legally held residencers will probably be OK, some deal will be done, but off course, its politics, no one really knows. But the overall consenus was why, what is it all about, why are the Brits so anti Europe I could not answer, my only answer could be that the Brits are anti everything, from a new motorway, airport, new housing, you name it.
For the future, new people wishing to retire here may be a different story.
And wait till you can longer get duty free ciggies!!!!!!!
I have tried to give a measured view.
Regards
T
