La Caixa have an account named Hola Bank which gives offers various extra services and was developed for ex pats and non residencia clients of all nationalities. The current charges are 24€ per quarter = 96€ pa. Online services are very good. Nice staff at the Arches branch.

We've just opened a Sabadell account and they were very helpful and seem very good. High Street branch is usually busy but ticket system works OK and you can have a sit down while you wait! No charges for our account and free international transfer back to our UK Bank.

Sabadell is OK as long as you have plenty of time. Only 2 cashiers dealing with cash and general enquirers. 20 minute wait is quite normal - No gooD for me, I changed to Deutsche bank, they go for customer service rather than increasing their customer base like Sabadell (I think Sabadell are the biggest in Spain)
I have in the last years had accounts with :-

CAM
LLOYDS
SABADELL
DEUTSCHE

We have a pensionista account with Bankinter. To qualify you only need to pay monthly pensions into the account exceeding 700,00€. This account is then devoid of any charges.

Bankia charge 20 euros per quarter. If you keep 2000 euros I. I think if you keep at least 2000 euros in your account or have an amount transferred in every month , there are no charges.
Very good customer service and on line banking.
Happy in the sun.

how come nobody recommends Santander as they have the 123 account which offers interest etc similar to the Santander UK account although the deposit max is lower.

I also need to open a Bank account. My main criteria is user friendly internet banking and no or low fees for transferring funds from my Lloyds Account every month. I currently use a German Bank account for my Euro transactions, but they charge me a lot for the transfers in, and also for cash withdrawals. Also, since my car is about to go onto Spainsh plates, I guess I need an account where road tax and insurance debits can be deducted.

I am not too worried about Bank queues, I very seldom go into a Bank, can't see any reason to want to go in there if I can do everything on-line.
And the adventure continues... :-)

Sabadel has a user friendly website with good online services. It's the bank transfering in that charges. We send money from Halifax UK to Sabadel and Halifax charge a nominal amount each time but Sabadel do not charge for receiving. Their fees are reasonable and if you have a regular monthly payment going onto the account (depending on the amount) you can get a fee free account. They asked me to do it but to pay in a set amount every month worked out more, with the Halifax transfer fee, than the fees that we would not be paying to have the account. It could suit some people though.

We are pleased with Sabadel and do everything on line from the UK.
