CURRENT MONEY TRANSFERS FROM ENGLAND

CURRENT MONEY TRANSFERS FROM ENGLAND

Postby prefect » Thu Oct 12, 2017 10:09 am

I have just been quoted for a sizeable money transfer from the UK to euros at 1 point below the current exchange rate.
The last time I transferred money I was quoted, and received the full current rate.
Is this now normal procedure or, have I nearly been conned out of a few euros.
Does anyone have the name of a firm that will give me the full current rate or am I living in a dream world
There is a possibility that any recommendations to some firms would provide a bonus to the provider of the details

The current exchange rate as quoted by Bloomberg is 1.1156.
TransferWise are giving 1.1157 for £1000 with £4.98 commission.
In your Spanish bank same day except weekends.

When we purchased our apartment last December the best rate we found for large transfers was Currencies Direct. Now as we only make small transfers we use Transferwise. It is always bet to get a few quotes.

However, none of them that I am aware of do it at full rate, how else would they stay in business?

Register with at least 2 companies then play them off against each other for their best rate. You will be surprised how good a deal you can end up with.

I use OFX but I have used Currencies Direct in the past.

I just checked and OFX pays the same rate as Transferwise and both are better than the listed Currencies Direct rate.

I have bargained with Currencies Direct before and got them to match the OFX rate but to be honest I dont like the hassle of having to try and get them to match so I just stick with OFX.

Now if someone can tell me when the Pound is going to go up again that would really help!

We use both Moneycorp and Transferwise. Both have been good.

We use Currency Fair, they charge 3 euros per transfer, whatever the amount with a good exchange rate.

Generally, I use TransferWise, but used MoneyCorp to transfer the "sizeable sum" for our house purchase. MoneyCorp asked if I had any other quotes and when I told them I had TransferWise, the agent said he was only able to beat it (by a whole 0.04!) because of the amount I wanted to transfer. It costs nothing to open an account with TransferWise - www.transferwise.com - or you can just have their website up whilst you're talking to other currency exchange companies, to ensure you're getting the best deal.

When getting quotes for currency exchange you really need to forget about rates and fees and just look at what sum you will receive in the new currency. IMHO you will not get a better deal than one of Transferwise, Currency Fair, or OFX. Just have all of them open on your browser, or app on your phone, and compare the three side by side and decide on the best result.
175 GBP for a transfer of 50,000 GPB is only .0035% and so if the exchange rate is better than other FX companies you will still be quids in, so don´t get hung up on the fees or exchange rate just compare the bottom lines.
