Money transfer issues

Money transfer issues

Postby robl » Tue Apr 24, 2018 7:40 am

Hi all
Has anyone had any issues with money transfers to Banco Sabadell? I’ve just purchased a property and found it an absolute ordeal getting money from a currency exchange company into my account. I understand money laundering issues and checks they have to go through but they’ve been close to impossible to deal with. I did manage to get the transfer made but after roughly 2weeks them requesting different pieces of information one after the other and in no particular order that made sense - sometimes the same thing several times. When they finally processed the transfer they said that this would be a one off and I’m not allowed to use an intermediary (money exchange co) as the money must come from my UK bank only or won’t be accepted.
Are they for real? I have to use my UK bank account only and get stuck with the terrible rate of conversion they offer? I won’t be transferring any house buying size sums in the near future but need to keep my Spanish account topped up to deal with day to day bills and living when I visit 3 or so times a year and have a good account rate with the transfer company that I’d like to continue using.
If anyone can advise if this is just Sabadell or if there’s a procedure I’ve missed or they’re just talking nonsense I’d be grateful!

I'm with Sabadell. I've used Hifx, Xendpay and Transferwise to get money from my UK account to my Spanish account. I've never even spoken to Sabadell about it. Just key in your account details when you open up an account with them, and that's it.
When we bought our property, I did have to transfer the money over in chunks of less than 20k euros, because of the charges, but after that, there's been no problems.

Just use TransferWise for every transaction. No probs, no hassle and always best rate and transferred same day. Look at all the excellent TransferWise reviews on this forum.

We've never had any problems with Sabadell. We used Currency Direct to transfer over several large sums when we purchased the apartment and I have made several small transactions with Transferwise over the last year to cover monthly bills, all without hassle. I use their online banking app to monitor the account.

I suggest you call into the branch in Quesada and discuss your problems as I have always found them (Jose particularly) very helpful.

Not sure which Sabadell acct you have, we have the Key Acct and never had any problems transferring money when buying or since using Smart Currency Exchange either . . Our acct was set up by our solicitors (Abaco) when we bought . . Maybe if you set it up yourself they aren't sure of your credentials . . As said above visit one of the branches to sort it.

Transferred to Sabadell large and small no problem with Transferwise is it because you have just set the account up and they did not have all the relevant info they needed as the now ask for Ni no which they never used to and I think this is due to the transfer of information between Spain and the UK!

Thanks guys - not sure what the issue is with how we did it. Solicitor set up account and we signed everything off to begin using - they must have taken issue with something but getting them to explain what/why was like pulling teeth. I’ll go in branch and see them as all the posts indicate this really shouldn’t have been an issue! Thanks again

As others have said, it's not normal behaviour for Sabadell. I had no issues transferring a large amount for my house purchase. Currency Fair did ask for a lot of extra information over and above what is normally required for smaller amounts- this to do with anti money-laundering legislation no doubt.

What did shock me was that Sabadell charged me €300 for the internal transfer (Sabadell to my solicitor) but I did get a €120 discount for buying my house insurance from them.

But you will find that you could have got exactly the same insurance with an agent for a lot less money so they stick it on to give you a discount in the hope that when renewal comes round you will stay with them
