[quote="TonTri"]I am planning on downloading smartDNS or similar on our netbook but I dont think you can add that or a VPN for that matter to a non-smart tv.

You don't actually download Smart DNS Proxy (https://www.smartdnsproxy.com/?afid=15502ab24903) onto your device, you configure the proxy settings online then simply change the DNS settings on your device, so it works perfectly on a firestick.

I purchased a Smart Samsung TV earlier this year and have never spent time accessing its capabilities as I have signed up to a switch on/off Wifi and UK Freeview channels service (not sure what the technical term is for this function?) but can anyone give me guidance on what I can actually do with the TV - i.e. what are the Smart functions and will they still work if the signal is now through a router/modem ?

Yes it works great with Netflix and you can load Mibdri on it for practically every tv station in the world.

I was just going to ask about a fire stick and someone had already asked about it. We bought a fire stick and then got a free trial on prime but they said we couldn't get any films up because we were in Spain, we then got Netflix very good but only videos not music. We now want to know can we get it on another television and how do you get television programmes with a fire stick

Just asking if anyone has managed to watch Clarkson's new programme, the Grand Tour via firestick? I saw it last night, good fun.

Hello,

If I understod it right you mast have VPN or Smart DNS to hide that you are in Spain. With smart DNS you get a IP Adress from the UK so you cdan see TV like in UK. I am working to do the same on my TV to get Netflix US (with US IP) this days . If I am wrong please tell .

There are a lot of 'work arounds' when using both Kodi & the Firestick. Kodi itself is a bit of a faff and you are reliant on applications and also free streams working with stability, which is not always the case.

Also I think a key point people miss or do not understand is that Kodi is not a 'consumer' program - meaning it is technical and whilst most can use it (to an extent) - it requires far more time updating and locating TV, than most other services - of course the trade off is content is free, however it is complex and some people do struggle to use, certainly when updating.

For example when Filmon recently changed their software, we received countless emails from people with Kodi / XMBC, asking how to delete, update and re-install apps. Many were unaware that you even have to do this. Difficult to get a TV guide working with stability as well.

In summary an Amazon stick if used as an Amazon stick, in the UK - does a perfectly reasonable job. Bring it to Spain and the Amazon features don't work, nor does iplayer etc - not without messing around with DNS / VPN's etc. Also you then use Kodi, which if going down this path, there are far more powerful media players that work better with Kodi, than the fire stick - still it is cheap...

If you want simple - defined channel list (no searching) 7 day program guide, weekly catch up TV and a video club with all content easy to find, then the subscription type (MAG) services are a much better option, easier to use, higher quality, no programming or updating, with a lot more features and stability - however, main different is a subscription based service - but you get a hosted solution, which gives you a much more comprehensive and simpler solution, without the need for VPN's / DNS or any technical know how... https://tvtech.sharepoint.com/Pages/britishiptv.aspx
