Britbox

Britbox

Postby fran burgess » Sat Jan 21, 2017 7:01 pm

Hi there,

We are totally new to Spain and trying to figure things out.

Thinking about buying the britbox to get free UK TV, wondering is it expensive to use internet wise?
How many GB would it cost to run monthly.

Hope someone can help.
Thank you in advance.

Most Spanish internet contracts are on a 'no download limit' basis, so the Internet cost would be a flat fee each month - usually around €25.
The exception may be some 4G services, but this depends on the ISP.

Personally, I use a satellite dish and a Humax Freesat box to get the free to air channels, which includes BBC, ITV etc., and is more than enough for us.

Thanks Pete,

Your reply is really helpful, we have subscribed to moviestar and the package includes 500MB.
for 62 euro per month. Would the company allow the streaming to go above that cost do you think or is it capped. We need to learn Spanish as as we have discovered we think we have worked out what they are saying and it is not right.

have had a britbox for a few years now, you need at least 6 meg on internet, we have 8 and with Telecable, no problem even during storms, just a one off payment for box, and that's it.

Wow! That sounds expensive. I pay €25 per month including tax for a fibre optic connection that gives me a 100mbps download and upload speed and no limits.

Is your deal a minimum term contract, or something that you can just walk away from?

Some ISPs will throttle your connection speed back to an absolute minimum when you reach the download limit, others will charge you for additional useage. So, you need to be very clear what the terms of your contract are.

I would very much doubt that 500MB a month would be anywhere near enough. We used to have a 20GB limit in the UK and went over that one month when our grandson stayed with us and streamed films to his phone. Our normal monthly tv and internet usage was usually below that but still well in excess of 500MB.

500mb a month is nothing - enough maybe for 1 film.

Few different options with this:

Forget mobile internet for TV - it is data capped, too expensive. You may be able to get cheap internet locally. We install on behalf of a telecommunications company called Telitec - unlimited internet 4Mbps 9.99 and 8mbs 19.99 (+ VAT), if available in your location. https://tvtech.sharepoint.com/Pages/Int ... lanca.aspx

Brit Box is very average at best, much better hardware and services available. Not very easy to use - if you are thinking Sky box, polar opposite - a little technical and does need software / apps updating from time to time, not always suitable for everyone - especially if not technically minded or patient. Can be unstable for certain content such as live sports.

If you just want free to air TV - a satellite dish long term will give you the best picture quality and is subscription free and not reliant on the internet (for UK terrestrial content). Sky can also be added in at any point in time.

If you want Sky content, this is also available by satellite. Additionally IPTV services (with monthly fees) are also available which offer all content, with catch up TV and easy to use with all premium channels.

Hi Paul

Thank you so much for all that information . I think I may have got it wrong and it's GB not MB.
Our apartment is in Torreblanka.
I could contact you directly regarding this if this is your area or whoever covers the area.
Thank you so much to everyone for advice, very much appreciated.
