Cheapest method of calling a landline in the UK

We have an old Nokia that we use in Spain with o2 pay as you go like Jan,we are surprised how cheap it is to ring the uk, it used to cost me a fortune with my I phone,whatsapp is brilliant but the receiver has to have it as well & some elderly are not into this type of technology,good old days come to mind.

I'm glad you have noticed the same thing - My son said he believes it's a European thing, that all mobile calls have been made more affordable across the EU - He also said that all that will change with Brexit!!! Oh dear, just when we are reaping the benefits of being in the EU.

We have been in Spain for nine years and until this year had two elderly parents (now departed) living in the UK with landlines only. By far the best for connection, no delays when talking, clear and very cheap is Skype. The cost is something like 0.03pence a minute.

It's under "Packages" on their website, 5Mb internet and landline with 1000 calls to any european country of your choice for €31.27 per month incl IVA. They also do an internet and mobile package where they upgrade your internet speed to 10Mb for €32.15 but I dont know if the calls include european calls or just local. I've been looking at this myself, thinking of getting a cheap mobile to leave in Spain.

I started with the 5mb but upgraded to 10 and got the Spanish SIM. I find that people are more likely to call me back on a Spanish mobile than for them to incur international call charges and, I'd get charged for receiving incoming calls if they did.

@donaduo,that's exactly what I am planning on doing. Although I am on 3 network so only pay UK rates in Spain I think a cheap mobile with a spanish sim will be handy for phoning taxis, shops, tradesmen etc during the 6 months of the year we plan on spending in Spain.

We did that for a while but after three sims being cancelled and losing our credit each time we went back and forth to Spain, we gave up. We tried all sorts of things to keep it 'live' while we were in the UK but it didn't work. If you are going back to the UK for 6 months use up your credit before you go as your sim will no doubt be dead when you get back and you will have to buy a new one...That's a nuisance too as you have a new number each time which then needs to be relayed to all contacts.

Hi Jan. We are planing on being back in the UK for about 3 months at the most each time, would that still cause problems with cancelling the sim?
