Cheapest method of calling a landline in the UK

Hi all, what's the most cost effective way of calling a landline back in the UK? My sister is moving to her place in the area in February and wants to stay in contact with dad. It won;t be a problem while I'm there as I'll have my wifi devices so we can do free calls but dad doesn't have a computer/tablet so will rely on his landline (although i'm going to try and set Skype up on his TV)

Any really cheap options out there with mobile operators which would include free calls to the Uk?

Skype works with landlines and mobiles. Not free but not expensive.

We pay 7 euros a month for 500 minutes a month with moviestar

If you have any type of smart phone, use Keep Calling (download to your phone). Their rates for calling U.K. Including 0845/0800 is cheap as chips (though I try to avoid these), i also use it to call 901/2 (Spanish premium numbers). Also Australia landline and mobile at fraction of the cost. You also get to know how much per minute before you dial. Only drawback is you need wifi or mobile data. Have a look at their webpage.

I don't know why or if it was a special deal but when I was in Quesada in October I used my mobile ( on UK - O2) to phone my mother on her landline in London and it was so cheap (about 8p a minute ). I generally phone her mobile but she kept forgetting and turning it off. It was so much easier to phone her landline and so cheap that I continued phoning her that way for the 4 weeks I was in Spain. Most of the calls I made came to around 40p a time. When we were in Spain 12 years ago with no mobile it was costing around 4 euros a time to phone UK from a call box for only a few minutes!!!
Has anyone else found this? I only have O2 pay & go with no special deal.

Yes I have all those things to call my kids (WhatsApp is my personal favourite for free calls and messages) but my 86 year old mother can't even get the hang of texts so the old fashioned ways are the only way for her I'm afraid.

Oh and changing from her old flip phone to an Iphone would be a nightmare!

Thanks guys. Dad hasn't got a smartphone, so Whatsapp and the link isn't an option. It's not a problem for me when i visit from the Uk as I'm on Three and get free roaming but sister is emigrating and needing a long term solution.

Foxystoat, if your with btinternet you can instal BT Smart Talk on your mobile and, when you are in a wifi zone, you can make calls to the UK using your calling plan. E.G. if you have anytime calls on your BT landline, that's extended to you whilst in Spain. Now, you could also load BT Smart Talk onto your sister's phone to allow her 'free' calls to the UK.

However, I'm sure that she'll get broadband, if she's there full time and, if she goes with someone like Telfy (formally Skynetlink). She'll get 1000 minutes a month to the UK

Have you thought about a phonecard, my friend in La Marina uses one to phone UK, very cheap.
