Getting out of internet contract
Getting out of internet contract
by Lynne1 » Tue Jan 02, 2018 10:52 pm
I'm having major problems with Teletec as I'm lucky to get 3mb but paying for 10. Some days it's under 1mb. I have spoken to them and they say I need to give one months notice and they will charge me €100 to cancel the contract. Is this legally binding or can I ask to get out of the contract with no charge as they are not providing what I am paying for. Any advice would be appreciated - thanks in advance.

Call their bluff.
Cancel your direct debit at the bank and tell them you are prepared to go to court.
You should be getting what you are paying for

Your contract will state they will provide up to 10mbps no provider will ever state that they will prove a definitive amount if internet data and the cancellation fee will be stated in the contract ,have a check

Contract says up to 10 mb but I’m lucky to get 4 on a good day. Sometimes it’s down to 1. Contract states €100 to get cancel.
It’s just a bad service all round. They don’t reply often and I do my own speech tests. I have to go to neighbours to make calls on WhatsApp or messenger!

Yes I agree but they are adament that they want the €100 to get out of the contract. I’ve told them I’ve cancelled direct debit and not paying €100 , they said they will take me to court.

I don't know enough about this situation to advise you accurately but I would keep all the paperwork/emails safely filed and also get screenshots/ printouts of the speed that you are or have been getting.
Hopefully others will give you better advice about this, but I'm assuming you are or were using a speed checker to get the evidence of the speed never getting up to the contracted speed (or even anywhere near it!) and then you should have some proof and could show the company what you have, before they try to start court proceedings if they ever do.
Good luck.

Probably the best solution is to cancel the direct debit at your bank and also give them one month's notice, then they won't be able to take any further unjustifiable payments from you without you agreeing to them. So it might be worth tolerating an extra few weeks to dispense with their nuisance service once and for all, rather than suffer the likelihood of lots of worrying harassment afterwards.

How many months left on your contract? And what’s your monthly outlay?
It might to viable and less hassle, to ride out the contract if only a few months left
