Humax HDR-1100S 500GB freesat reciever
Humax HDR-1100S 500GB freesat reciever
by mikethecamera » Thu Aug 03, 2017 11:25 am
Hi All,
I'm thinking about replacing my GI box with this new Humax box.
If I bought a UK model would it be ok to work in Spain? I already have a GI dish and I receive all the Freesat channels but I don't have an internet connection.
The main question I'm asking is the TV system the same as UK which I know is PAL.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

There's actually no such thing as a Spanish Freesat box, they are designed for use in the UK, but in my experience they work very well in Spain. I have two HDR-1000s boxes in Spain and they are great.
If you want to record one channel while you watch another then you'll need a twin LNB and two cables from your dish to your box.
You'll find the user interface and program guide much much nicer than your old GI box.
Pete.

We use a Humax Freesat box connected to a satellite dish. We watch live TV, recorded series and my husband's favourite NIK (a channel about events and news in Japan) plus some obscure channels i have not heard of!!
Good luck

On advice from here we bought a Humax 1000s (Richer Sounds £79 a couple of months ago) and a 100gb external drive (£15) - simple plug in USB not mains powered - it takes its power from the USB
This works well and allows me to record BUT you can only record the channel that the box is playing.
It took me a few attempts to figure out it will "bounce" to different channels if you want to record BBC then ITV etc and this is useful if you are not in or have gone to bed.
The bonus also was I discovered you can watch "recorded" programmes whilst it is recording - so we tend to watch it that way - viewing last nights main programmes tonight (if that makes sense) unless it's something like Sport that you want to watch live.
It also pauses live tv - which is useful.
I found this to be a cheaper option and as we don't live in Quesada permanently it works well for us and if we have a backlog of "must see" programmes I can slip the external drive in my hand luggage and take it home
Good Luck

That's very helpful. As I only have one cable from the dish which means I can only record what I'm watching or one channel, I might as well just get the cheaper version without the built in drive and use a separate hard drive to take back with me.....Good thinking, Thank you Ian
