Need ethernet solution

Need ethernet solution

Postby Espanabums » Tue Jan 02, 2018 12:42 pm

I have an Ethernet cable that runs from my router through a conduit in the walls to my MAG 250 IPTV box. I would like to have a similar Ethernet cable running to my smart TV.

Ideally I would like to have a splitter that had a female socket, to take the single Ethernet cable, with two male cables, about 1/2 metre long coming out of the splitter.

Does such an adapter exist as I cannot find anything on Ebay or Amazon?

If not, can anyone suggest a solution please. The television is hung on the wall and so I would like something small to fit behind the TV to hide the cabling.

No, that won’t do the job.
You need an Ethernet Switch, as there needs to be circuitry that controls the flow of the network traffic.
A Gigabit Switch would be preferable, but a 10/100 mbps Switch would do the job.
Something like this would be fine:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/NETGEAR-GS305-100UKS-Gigabit-Ethernet-Wallmount/dp/B00TV4A96Q/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1514897386&sr=8-8&keywords=gigabit+ethernet+switch&tag=tqs-21

The Switch will need a power source, but it seems that the one I’ve linked to uses a power supply that has a mains lead that plugs in, so you could easily swap the lead for an EU type.

Plug your existing Ethernet cable into one of the ports (it doesn’t matter which one) then connect an Ethernet cable from one of the ports to your MAG box and another to your Smart TV.
So, you’ll need a couple of Ethernet patch cables in addition to the Switch.

A LAN splitter will not do the job as it will reduce the signal by 50% to each connection best is Petes suggestion or a LAN extension box
Have you looked into Network Hubs cost is about 35 euros in Media Mart or Carrefour

Smart TV solutions are not at the moment the best option - generally, services on these are secondary in comparison to dedicated solutions - as the TV's do not have much memory and can have issues with buffering due to this, unlikely to ever work quite as well. Also seen issues with missing epg data, other services such as catch up either do not exist or seem to not work so well - or on what i've seen. Problems with apps, compatibility versions - different, not saying they don't work - but simply not as well or as stable as a dedicated set-top box.

I have a Mag 256 with Iptv. As the router is in another room I use power line connectors. They work through the electric cabling in the house.

Works fine for me.
