Satellite question

Satellite question

Postby jules1 » Mon Apr 17, 2017 5:03 pm

Does anybody know if I can split a single satellite feed to a twin tuner satellite receiver?
Having problems recording one channel whilst watching another and believe we need two feeds to enable us to do this.

You do indeed need a twin LNB and 2x cables to be able to record 1x channel whilst watching another, here's a pro in the know member/Paul%20-%20TV%20Techie/

yup - you can't split a cable like you could with analogue - need an independent feed from the LNB - so two cable feeds, twin LNB etc.

Signal is on two polarities - Horizontal & Vertical. As you switch the first receiver on, it locks the specific polarity on the LNB - example one of the BBC1 frequencies which is on Vertical. If you just try to take a T junction in the cable, you then switch on the 2nd box (or 2nd tuner / twin tuner) and the channel you happen to want to watch is on a Horizontal frequency, which has been locked out by the first box....and there's your black / blank screen :!:

So by not splitting the cable your box can switch from Horizontal to Vertical frequencies, between channels. You can do the other way - forced into it once or twice when seen ducts filled with concrete in by builders...But it's a pain, doesn't work well, you have to remember what channels are H / V - turn them off and on - same channel, doesn't always quite go to plan...Not the way to do the job.
