TV picture breaking up

TV picture breaking up

Postby jules1 » Sat Dec 31, 2016 9:37 am

Since the bad weather I have noticed that my TV picture is breaking up a little. We moved into our villa in
August it already had a satellite dish and our sky box which we brought from the UK connected ok and no problems.
Can I retune somehow to sort out this signal problem?

the strong winds from the storm prob moved your dish so the dish needs realigning. Mike

Yes, most likely that the wind has moved the dish out of alignment. The other possibility is that the heavy rain has leaked into your LNB or into the cables.

A local satellite specialist with a good quality alignment tool will soon track down the cause of the problem and fix it for you.

I find when it rains a lot, the dish gets very wet and that alters the signal, when the rain stops all is returned to normal, try wiping off the dish with a cloth and see if that helps.

We had a new dish installed recently and the installer did warn us that when it rains there is a possibility of losing the picture and we sometimes do

I don't think you lose the picture because the dish is wet, it's the droplets of water (and at higher altitudes ice) in line if sight between the dish and the satellite that blocks or disperses the signal.

Water does refract / weaken signal - though light or usual rainfall you should be ok, unless dish is close to the edge of reception - which can sometimes be the case....If you do get a little pixellation - for example on BBC1 or ITV, check other regions as some are stronger than others - different frequencies. Also if dish is not well aligned it will be more easily affected.

Very heavy rainfall, will knock anything out - Internet (external antennas), TDT or a satellite dish - any size. Same goes for electrical type storms - thunder and lightening - has potential to knock anything externally.

I don't think you lose the picture because the dish is wet, it's the droplets of water (and at higher altitudes ice) in line if sight between the dish and the satellite that blocks or disperses the signal.

Agreed. A wet dish is fine, it's the droplets coming down that affect the signal. A load of birds mess on the dish though will affect matters, though....
