Wanted - TV, Sports & Movies via satellite

Wanted - TV, Sports & Movies via satellite

Postby Espanabums » Sun Mar 05, 2017 10:17 pm

With the holiday season approaching and all the visitors getting switched on, temporarily, we are not looking forward to a repeat performance of last year, with our internet TV being disrupted, freezing, pixilating etc., with the diluted WiMAX reception.
We are looking to get a satellite dish installed and pay a monthly subscription to get sports and movie channels. There is a company in Calle Los Arcos, Quesada, that install such a system for a one off initial payment and an ongoing subscription of about 20€ a month.
Does anyone have such a system and can tell us what it is like for both content, quality and reliability?
In addition to the English speaking channels, can you access any Spanish speaking ones?

I use "Go Satellite in Calle Los Arcos Quesada, I have an Mag 254 IPTV box which is fantastic gets all the British channels including sports and a list of over 3000 movies with 30 day catch up on all channels. Personally I would not touch the one mentioned by Walnut I found them VERY unhelpful.

Snackman - friend of go satellite? ;-) We always try to be helpful - if you look at us on a number of local forums, you will always offer us offering support and advice - often to customers that are not ours! We also have a live Facebook page where people can send messages for advice & we post up useful information on latest TV updates.

Actually i'm a little offended as am always helpful & only exception to that would be if someone was rude to us first...

However - PT Barnum quote rings true, you can't please all the people all of the time - and that's the truth, we can but try our best. I know one thing, our customer service is a damn site better than most companies as we pick up their business from fed up customers - we get told as such.

We offer all internet & TV services, satellite and IPTV - only difference, our TV service has 800 channels of UK, Premium and international (as well as into sports) and 25,000 films and series free to watch on demand - a little more comprehensive in content, than most other services offered locally. Here. https://tvtech.sharepoint.com/Pages/britishiptv.aspx

Happy to provide references either from this forum or other local ones.

Thank you forum members for your replies so far.

If you read my original post you will see that I already have IPTV, supplied by TV Technology as it happens, but due to the often crappy WIMAX WIFI service we receive during peak periods it does not make for quality tv viewing.

This is why we are looking into the installation of satellite TV and the "Freesat" channels will be good although we also need lots of movies, for me, and lots of sport, for my wife. To be able to use the red button for the BBC coverage of Wimbledon would also be very much a desirable option. Eurosport and The Tennis Channel would also be needed.

We are quite happy to pay a monthly subscription for the extra channels as long as there is a suitable package available.

Who is your internet provider and what are there speeds? might be worth a look at - a few of our clients have switched around. Does depend on location / provider / speed. Ultimately if your internet is good - so will your TV.

I know the TV service is stable, I use it at peak periods in my house - we are not selling something we do not own or use ourselves. it may have the odd glitch, but generally way more stable than most.

You can use freesat / satellite for the TV and yes, it does not rely on the internet but only for free to air content - however if you are looking again back Sky - an 'alternative' service - such as satellite / card share sky, then the Sky side is still on the internet and if ping speeds slow you will get glitching, though it can be argued it uses much less data overall, but will still wobble if your internet does - but the free channels are not reliant, so if your internet falls over, you will still be watching BBC 1, but not Sky sports. We do not offer card sharing services, though of course know about them how they work and set up.

Alternatively we / you, can install an official Sky box, with subscription of choice, at Sky's official monthly fees (+ cost of box), though seemingly not many wish to pay £80+ per month for HD, Sky Sports, BT Sports and the family / films - can quite easy to push well over that with a few bolt on's. Not reliant on internet for live content, so Sky sport can be watched with no internet. On demand will not work without VPN router.

Ultimately, if reliance on an TV service is via the internet and the internet is less than stellar, this will affect or reduce the performance of any service. A satellite system for free to air, is not reliant on internet for Freetoair / Freesat / Freeview.

We currently have a MAG 250 box and subscription to wliptv.com

We live on San Luis and our internet is supplied by Telecable. We subscribe for 8MB but rarely receive that and also the signal is a bit saw tooth like when I do an Ookla speed test. When the holiday home owners arrive the signal quality goes right down as more people are added. We call technical services regularly when this happens and sometimes it is sorted quite soon afterwards, sometimes not. As per Murphys law this always happens at the vital part of a tennis or soccer match, very frustrating.

The permanent solution would be fibre optic WIFI but it does not look likely any time soon, hence the enquiry into satellite TV.

Daft question - if Telecable are not up to par in your location, why not put in a better internet provider.

Others as well do better speeds / stability, even on microwave services. We have plenty of IPTV customers on the microwave services - and it is true that some are better than others. I don't want to get into slating a lot of providers or naming - suffice to say a few of the better known ones, do struggle simply down to the fact they don't have sufficient bandwidth to deal with the 100% increase odd loading when tourists out. There are also other variables such as what transmitter you are on - so often people use the same company in different locations, do not always share the same end result - to summarise, probably less people on the Almoradi transmitters, than Torre - and also less tourists, so performance likely to be better in different areas. Not very useful for recommendations, if different location - it is good to speak with nearby neighbours as local knowledge king.

TV

Using a satellite system (if not changing internet) would give you better stability on FTA channels, though if not using an official Sky system, and using an 'unofficial' service it still uses the internet - partly. So unless getting an official Sky box or improving your internet, getting the premium channels or switching to another non official / internet service may also have stability issues - back to the internet again.

Official Sky or change of internet service provider - for the premium stuff. I supposed you could also argue that card sharing is pretty cheap now anyway and if installing a satellite system with receiver, it will give you the FTA solid and Sky cheap, which can be used as a back up?
