Spanish lessons

I go to a Spanish class run by Alan who is English at Bar Catorce in Benijofar. I have been going for 2 years now and have learnt a lot and can actually converse with my Spanish neighbour which I couldn't have done before my lessons, it is usually in a group of 14 people. Alan does classes for beginners so if you would like to give him a call his number is: 617530247. The class is for 1.5 hours and is 5 euros a time. I'm sure if you give him a call he will explain everything to you. My husband has just joined the beginners class and has learnt a lot already. Everyone I have spoken to says they really enjoy his classes and learn a lot. It really is great to be able to go shopping and speak the language rather than standing there with a vacant look on my face. Good Luck

I would like to say, I don't go to Spanish class as a social experience, I go to learn Spanish as I live in their Country. When I go to class I learn a lot and am proud that I can actually speak and read the language pretty well. Yes I do know the difference between Quesada, Queso and Cartagena and can say them correctly. I even know that you always put the no in front of the word pienso or any other word for that matter. I was under the impression that the reason for this site was to give help/assistance to people who require it. Not as an opportunity for someone to belittle my Spanish teacher and myself.

I was under the impression that "no pienso" means "I do not think", just as "no hablo" means "I do not speak".
"pienso no" is more correct for "I think not", so i reckon walnut was right :D
BUT..... as a self taught Spanglish speaker, I could well be wrong myself, but does it really matter? At the end of the day, as long as the meaning is put across, job done.
Not everyone comes to Spain to integrate (just like many immigrants living in the UK) and we all have our own distinct abilities (and weak spots).
Lets concentrate on supporting those that want to learn and be positive.

I also attend Alan's Spanish Classes in Benijofar (for two years). It is definitely NOT just a social gathering. The lessons are structured, we have homework but the most important thing is that the lessons are enjoyable.

Prior to attending this class, my husband and I went to various Spanish classes, including the ones set up by the local ayutamiento. We found them to be too difficult, and learnt very little.

Alan's class is by far the best. We can now converse in Spanish, do not need a translator for the Doctor or the Hospital, and are gradually understanding more and more Spanish language. It is a slow process, but is very rewarding. Good luck to anyone who at least gives lessons a try. No learning is wasted. :D :D
