Santander to Burgos. Burgos to Madrid then the R3 ring road to get round Madrid (toll about 2.50 euro). Madrid to Albacete. Albacete to Elche. Elche to Quesada.
About 10 hours if you make two stops for petrol/coffee/comfort break etc.
Use via Michelin website to get the full route. The one above is virtually all motorway with no tolls and quite empty roads except around the main towns.
We always try to get the ferry that gets in early in the morning so we can travel during the day.

hi, we did the trip for the first time this Sunday and because the roads were so good and empty especially with it being a Sunday we didn't break the journey, but did see hotels en route. Hope you find one to suit and sorry we couldn't help you, safe travelling.

Hi

I did the journey last year at the end of Feb. Be warned that although the roads are great we did drive through all sorts of weather including fog and hail! I was the only one driving and decided a stop half way was a good idea especially as it turned out we had no sleep on board the boat as it was blowing a gale all night ( hope its better for you).

We stayed at HOTEL RURAL LA CASA ALTA (Belmonte del Tajo - Madrid) ( literally just a few kms off the main road) I cant recommend it enough. Its absolutely lovely there and the couple that own it are just so friendly and hospitable. It was a very welcome break, very comfortable and excellent food. Nothing was too much trouble.

Good luck.

we did this route in September , stopped in Madrid just off the ring road so easy to find and get back on route in the morning , hotel Nuevo Boston 4 star really good clean and comfortable , and walking distance to a big shopping centre for an evening of food and drink , and a buffet breakfast in the morning to set us up for the final 3.5hrs

Liz & Gordon, journey time was 2.30pm to 11.30pm with two of us driving and two stops for drinks etc., and didn't hardly exceed the speed limits.

Thanks to others for the two hotels, will note them down as it's always handy to have some backstops in case things change.
