Anyone hired a car since new UK DVLA regulations?

Hi
Has anyone hired a car from Alicante Airport since the scrapping of the paper licence and if so, have they been asked for the DVLA code?

I used FireFly when over the week beginning 14th June. Although I had my code and offered the paperwork, they said it wasn't necessary

I use Goldcar regularly, I and my wife both have old style, pre 1998, paper only licences. After checking with DVLA I was told in writing, that our licences are legal and valid for car hire in England and Spain. I checked, with Goldcar and they confirmed (again in writing) that our licences are okay, we do not need to change the licence, and do not need a plastic new type licence.

That's right; the change only applies to the photo-style driving licence. The DVLA have done away with the paper part
