Bringing a Spanish car back to Spain
Bringing a Spanish car back to Spain
by Quesadasteve » Tue Sep 05, 2017 2:47 pm
I've been offered a Spanish registered LHD fiesta by a friend who bought it in Spain ...drove back to uk and parked it in his garage and didn't go back again ....this was about 6 years ago !!!
Question is how would I go about driving it back to Spain ...obviously there is no Spanish road tax , mot test or insurance on it
Any suggestions or help
Thanks

Hi Steve,
When we first came out, I bought a Spanish car in the U.K. As we had pets to bring out and felt this would give us some longer term convenience. It is easy to buy a Spanish reg car in the UK, on eBay or from several specialist UK dealers.
The car I bought was still in the Spanish owners name, and we had the paperwork required to prove it, ( the green equivalent to the UK log book) but the ITV and suma had expired.
All you can do is keep your travel documents and proof of purchase with you when returning, and book an ITV as soon as you return, then have the car registered in your name. Unfortunately, the registering is easier if someone who knows what they are doing sorts it for you, and there will be a charge to the Spanish government, based on the book value of the car. Hope that helps, John

What is being suggested is not legal and could lead to the car being impounded and crushed if stopped by the Guardia in Spain or the Gendarme in France plus a very large fine for you
Get it brought here by trailer there are plenty of firms doing it for around 500 pounds

It would also be illegal to drive for the UK portion of the trip!
Plus . . . . would you really want to drive a car that has sat idle for 6 years all the way to Spain? . . . You'd need to have the whole car checked out and cleaned out, engine, suspension, tyres and fuel system (tyres, hydraulic fluid and fuel deteriorates with age)
