Buying and owning a car in Spain

Hi Laura,
Part of the sail is 21 days & nights at sea but in between there are slightly shorter sails with some stopovers. You did well...I think 20 hours would be over my limit. I did a few day sails between canary Islands but that was enough for me with the strong winds out there. The keen sailors love a good wind...not for me though, the sideways sailing spills my gin & tonic .
Thanks for your good wishes, from one sailor to another, I'm sure Doug will appreciate good winds.

You are correct I'm afraid Glyn. The kids and I all mentioned this when he started arranging this but he said 'no chance'. I hope he doesnt regret saying that but i'm writing this from Amsterdam airport and if they continue playing like last night in Holland I think ffc won't have the slightest chance. Jan

Hi Jan,
Sorry it's taken such a long time to respond to this about buying a car in Spain, I've only just read the article's. I bought a brand new Ford Focus on Christmas eve 2010. I bought it from Crespo in Elche. I just paid them the money and they delivered it to me in Quesada. I didn't have to do a thing, the only time I do anything now is to insure it through Linea Direct and they communicate in English too.
We park it up at our house in Quesada, throw a cover over it and get a lift too and from the airport. No probs.

Hi Glyn,
It must be easier buying & owning a new car in Spain rather than a second-hand one, as if it's anything like the UK it wouldn't need an ITV (MOT) for the first few years. Also it would not need re-registering to the new owner on purchase like a used car. However, as much as we'd like to, we really couldn't justify paying out to buy a brand new car which will be parked in the drive of our holiday home for months at a time -We are just not in Spain enough. Although we are still toying with the idea of somehow having a car over there, even if it's my UK car brought over and left there just for the summer months.

Hi Jan
Yes I suppose so. The reason I had a new one was it was geeting so expensive having a hire car.

Thinking about it, we could have probably bought a brand new car with the money we have spent on hire cars over the last six years

I think I've told you on anather post, we go back 4th Feb. Just checked in online now with Ryanair. There's a few more pages now offering extra suitcases, sports cases (golf equipment and bicycles)and for an extra tenner each pick your own seat. They must be really struggling for revenue's whilst they've slashed the winter flights!
