Car Registration

Postby Billbabs1 » Sun Jan 14, 2018 10:48 pm

Hello can anyone please advise have had a look through posts but cant seem to find a few answers I need on bringing my UK car over to Spain on a permanent basis. Our car is just over 1 year old first MOT not due till 2019 will this still be the case in Quesada. Also does anyone know how long we have to register and change the car and motorbike number plates and will there be import charges for both ?

Thank you in Advance

The tax will be quite high on a 1 year old car, the tax is given in a large volume book with every car included. ( mine was a brand new car, tax was €3,500.) all included came to €4K. The headlights were 296€ plus vat(ITV) each. I now have Spanish car. The Right Hand Drives are a pain on the motorway toll road barriers and car parking barriers. RHD seem to be of more interest to the local authorities.
You have 6 months officially to change to Spanish plates (but many don’t).

If you bring is as part of your household goods within a certain time you will not have to pay tax, you need a Baja from the British Consultate in Alicante

If you are coming over to be a resident, or are already a resident, then you have 30 days in which to start the process of re-registering. The car will need an ITV (MoT equivalent) to register it but it will not need another one until it is 4 years old and then every 2 years after that until it is 10 years old then annually.
