Centauro Car Rental

Centauro Car Rental

Postby Jon Stead » Sat May 03, 2014 1:07 pm

I booked a Centauro car about 3 weeks ago for the next time we come over to Spain for 13 days at a cost of 260 Euros. I thought this was a bit steep but I like Centauro and put it down to the time of year.

For some reason, I don't know why, whilst online tonight I checked Centauro again for the same dates and times - more than 100 Euros cheaper! Needless to say I cancelled my previous booking and made a new one.

I thought booking in advance would save money but clearly it doesn't.

Hi Jon,

Just a tip try using economycarhire.com to check prices if you register with them which won't cost anything when you so a search it tells you who the rental company is I used to do this and always booked Centauro It saved me fortunes I once booked out of season for 10 days for £50.00 all in!!! if you are booking in August its better to book a bit earlier as the cars go due to demand and it can cost a lot more but I found at any other time I got a fantastic deal.

Cheers

What I normally do is when I book my flights I book a car at the same time. I then check back weekly and normally get a better deal. I have a volkswagen golf for june for 106 euros for 19 days. It pays to keep checking ( I booked with do you Spain). Noel

Hi do you Spain May have improved but check as they did not offer second driver as part of the package on the last time I tried them and the cheap option with them was Gold Car which I found to be a nightmare in the past, having said that I have not hired for twelve months, I have also used Torrecar great service and refuelling was return as delivered but they were only cheaper once in around 20 rentals!! I always checked with do you Spain and Economy car and never at the time got as good a deal as Economy with the extras included so always read the small print!! also if you want total peace of mind and don't want to be conned into extra insurance I used to get a yearly extras policy which covered as many trips as you made this covered tyres under body damage and lost keys etc. (http://www.insurance4carrental.com/questor.htm) also if you are shrewd you can usually get a discount code for them with at least 10% off. the moral is check out everyone out if you have the time.

Cheers

Matt, I will have to pay for the tank of fuel which I don't mind once I am out for a couple of weeks as I will use the fuel anyway. When I'm out for shorter stints I go for full/full options. With the tank of fuel it will come to around 200 euro, which isn't bad for 19 days rental. You can get annual excess insurance that removes the liability for any excess incurred for around 50 euros a year.

I too have had a similar experience to Jon regarding booking early.
I reserved a car for 12 days over June/July with Dickmanns a month ago. When I checked again last night the price had come down by almost 140€!! Needless to say I have also cancelled and re booked!
Dickmanns seem to have a bad name but this will be my 3rd time this year using them and I have always had great service and no problems. I hate the thought of 400 - 600€ being taken out of my credit card (NOT reserved!) with the resultant exchange rate loss and possible problems getting it back (I've read some horror stories!) So to avoid this I always take out their full CDW (or premium plus insurance they now seem to call it) and it means I use my debit card for payment thus avoiding any charges to my credit card. It costs around 8€ per day but I have never even had my car checked over on return (possibly due to having this cover) and only asked "was everything ok?"
It will cost me 280€ for 12 days but that is for full/empty and I intend to empty that tank. Plus, the final price was unfortunately bumped up by 37€ due to an excess being levied as I have to return the car to the airport at the ungodly hour of 0530! Otherwise it would have only cost 243€(for a Fiesta or Corsa btw) Dickman's also have an online deal at the moment whereby you can pick up/drop off at Alicante airport and return to Torrieviaje at no extra charge (I was charged 30€ for this in January!)
Finally, I find it easier to book through Dickmanns themselves than a broker as it usually works out cheaper!
Hope this helps anyone else confused by the minefield of car hire! :-)

It is defiantly not cheaper to book direct on a general basis only once in lots of hires over the years have I ever found it cheaper and usually a massive amount cheaper through Economy car and having annual insurance cover I have saved thousands of pounds over the years by not booking direct also Economy car have been Which best car provider for the last two years, I would suggest checking all other providers you may use then check with Economy and in my experience if you need a second driver etc. they are included as standard, I have no affiliation with Economy car but bang on about them as they have been absolutely brilliant for years and saved me a lot of money

Cheers happy car hunting :D

I have just checked out Economy Car and it would cost the same to hire from them as Dickmanns direct.
I have to take out their full insurance as I don't possess a credit card (too tempting) I feel safer having it anyway.
I suppose the moral is to just check and double check.
I have never waited in queues or had any problems with Dickmanns so will just stick with them. :-)
