Changing driving licence from uk to Spanish, latest info?

Re going back to UK. It depends when you're going. You don't hand in your UK license on the first visit, that just registers your license with trafico and you get the UK license back. It's only when DVLA have confirmed your driving status that you hand in the license and will just have the paper bit for a couple of weeks whilst the new one is being printed and sent to you. (ours took about 10 days after handing in the license).

Hi it seems that some people have no problem re changing their licenses, however I'm concerned because ours (mine and hubby) runs out May 15 and neither of us have had any endorsements/accidents, so it should be straight forward. We are going to UK in March and need to hire a car, would the 'Spanish paper' be accepted by 'car hire companies' if anyone has tried this please let me know.

I am pretty sure that the UK car renters will NOT accept the 'piece of paper', so i'd advise you to see someone like Nick Bateman (recommended by several others) in Benijófar and get it sorted.
I need to take my own advice ... I still have my UK licence, but have been waiting for my Spanish one since APRIL 2013
I tried to rattle their cage and they said they were still awaiting info from DVLA !!
It's a job on my To Do List for this year(early!), along with a new Will!
