Citreon DS3 issues with rear cluster lights

Citreon DS3 issues with rear cluster lights

Postby Angela17 » Thu Jul 20, 2017 5:15 pm

In preparation for moving to Spain we have changed the rear cluster lights and have now been told by the Citroen dealer that they would have to do the work to make the left hand fog light come on and for the reserve light to work when it goes into reserve.
We have spoken to two dealers in the U.K and been told 2 different things, the first being they could run a wire (once they have worked out which wire from the wire guide of the car) although this is something they have never done and don't know of it would work. The second dealer is saying that the compartment harness would need changing, the harness is over £200 and with labour it would cost £1076.
Has anyone encountered these issues before and, do you think we should wait until we get to Spain to get this sorted as they are used to dealing with these sort of issues?
Has anyone used the citreon garage in southern costs blanca?

I answered your question about this when you first talked about changing the rear light clusters, which I don't think was necessary:
http://www.talkquesada.com/driving-to-spain-car-hire-in-spain-buying-and-owning-a-car-in-spain-f90/rear-cluster-led-lights-for-ds3-t20608.html#p87637

The solution is to run a wire from the rear fog light (and reversing light if that's an issue as well) across to the bulb holder on the right hand side. Any auto electrician will be able to do this, and if they are in any doubt about wether it will work then it's easy enough to lash-up with a length of wire to prove the concept.
If you can't get a solution at a sensible price in the UK then you will probably be better-off having it done in Spain.
You'll no doubt use a company like http://spanish-number-plates.com to handle the re-registration process and they will be able to get the modifications to the rear wiring done at a very sensible price. I assume that you'll also need LHD headlamp clusters, and they will be able to supply and fit these at sensible prices too.

Pete.

Thank you Pete, and I appreciate both of your replies. We do think that we will have it done in Spain as, judging by what you have said, this will be the much cheaper option. Many thanks.

Have it done in Spain and NOT by a main dealer. I was quoted Eu 1100 by the Ford dealership in La Marquesa for ne headlights, so I went to a scrap yard in Los Montesinos to see if I could source the lights myself, but my car was too new. The younger chap working there spoke pretty good English, he sourced after-market lights for me and fitted them - total cost Eu 300.

I also have experience of the Citroen dealership in Benijofar, when my neighbour's C5 had his fuel line cut by night time thiefs stealing fuel from cars parked on the roadside. The Citroen dealership said they wouldn't even be able to look at it for 2 days, so I took him to a small Spanish workshop in San Fulgencio who fix our Local Police cars. They drove back with us to his home there and then, fixed the line - total cost Eu 50. It's probably a safe bet to say that Citroen's hourly charge rate is more than that, before they even fix it.

There are plenty of auto electricians in the area, certainly no need for it to cost you the sums you've been quoted. Good luck with the car and good luck with your move!

Had you thought about swapping your car with someone who is coming back to the uk. It would be a lot cheaper...
