Has anyone used DoyouSpain car hire?
by bigwolls » Wed Feb 25, 2015 2:23 pm
Hi Jan - I see that there is an ad on Talk Quesada re Murcia car hire from £5.9 per day - DoyouSpain car hire. I have never had dealings with them before so wondered if you or anyone else reading can advise whether they are a genuine company who deal fairly with customers. We are coming frequently to Quesada and although we have never had any trouble with hiring, prices seem to be all over the place plus one is never sure if one is going to get caught in the 'you have damaged this' argument when you havent.....we usually use Budget / Avis at San Ribera, but it appears they may have closed that office now as it doesnt come up on an on-line search. They have been good but when one sees the low prices on the DoyouSpain, there is an apprehension that all may not be as it seems...I would welcome any comments or advices from those who have used them. Cheers

Hi my Irish neighbours always use them. They are not the car hire company but offer you the best deals with various companies

Hi bigwolls
Nearly all of the advertisements on our site are dynamically generated by Google which means the adverts shown are different for everybody and thousands of different companies are shown in total. We always recommend you use at your own risk and always research first (like you have done)
Hopefully we have some members here who have used them
Thanks
Alex

DoYouSpain is a broker as mentioned. You book your car and they allocate a car hire company (Econorent, Solmar, Dickmanns or whatever) and send you a voucher to collect the car. They have been going for a long time as we used them over 15 years ago. They often work out cheaper than going direct to the car hire company website. You also have the option of selecting a hire company or refusing the one they offer you and picking another one.

We used them for this trip of a 2 month hire , price was good but just be aware that you will also get an email offering you insurance for half price . We purchased this only to be told. At the puck up desk the insurance had nothing to do with the hire company & we ended up having to take their insurance for peace of mind . The cost wasn't that much because of the time of year but in high season it could be much more . Having said all that we will still use doyouspain for car hire but will ignore emails offering half price insurance.

DoYouSpain is a broker as previously said. Whoever they put you with you need to check their conditions. If you book some time before you go check later as often prices reduce & you can cancel & rebook free.
Before buying our own car here we used DoYouSpain regularly insisting they put us with Econorent at the time.

We have used them a couple of times a year for the last 3 years. Never had any problems with them and used them for different rental companies that they cater for. One piece of advice is to take out annual excess insurance (around €50) that will cover all policy excesses, giving you piece of mind whenever you rent the car.

I use this company regularly and, just like any discount provider (e.g. Ryanair) they are very cheap when used correctly. They aim to get you the cheapest car hire available at the time. They are very good at this, but you really need to make sure the conditions are right for you, so check out the voucher in great detail.
The biggest problem is usually the Fuel Policy - If you are hiring for just a couple of days and the fuel policy for this hire is full to empty then, unless you aim to use a full tank then this could be bad news. It wouldn't have as big an impact if you are hiring for 2 months for example, but on short hires it matters. The fuel policy is always a bit of an issue, because car hire companies charge around €80- €120 on top of the hire price if you get the car full with fuel. It includes a refuelling charge.. It's not the fault of DoYouSpain and to be honest they have always been great with me, but it is just something to be aware of. But other fuel policies are available and you can actually search by this, meaning that you might want a policy of full to full, meaning that you only end up paying for what you use, which on a short hire can save you more than the rental itself cost. A small but important point really..
Also, someone from DoYouSpain told me that the cheapest hire period is always under 30 days because that is the limit for most companies. If you exceed 30 days then the number of companies that offer cars drops dramatically, the conditions and more importantly, the prices change. In a 2 month period it is cheaper to take 2 car hires, one when you arrive, then in 30 days have a nice day out in Alicante and collect a new car on the way back. This is MUCH cheaper and gives you an excuse for a day out.
Alicante Airport is also the cheapest location for Hire Car companies, although Torrevieja is offered. The price difference is again quite marked.
Remember one final point. With DoYouSpain you get free cancellation, so don't pay at the time of booking. Print out your voucher, check everything is a you wish it to be, then you can go back online to pay if you want to go ahead. If you don't want to then you just need to cancel it on their website and nothing is payable.
Good luck!
