Hello Richard ,
I was surprised by the tone and inaccuracy of your post, but I suppose you have a need
to express yourself in that manner.
Firstly I did not say the batteries couldn't be removed, I said a special key was needed,
a key I do not possess. Also removing three batteries lodged under swivel seats once a
month is simply not practical.
Secondly nowhere did I mention the vehicle not being driven, in fact it is in daily use as it is hardly bigger than a Renault Espace.
Thirdly no it is not used for guest accommodation or needed for such, anyway the bed is situated in the electric elevated roof operated by.....yes the auxiliary.
Finally, I purchased this new vehicle five years ago when I moved to Spain, it was priced
at £39000 so I think I'll keep, to use your phrase "my antique hotel" a little bit longer.
As for your give me strength remark I'm sorry my post seemed to exasperate you, it was not my intention. For heavens sake it was a simple post asking for some friendly advice.
We are not all experts in all fields and this area is certainly not mine, as friendly
advice doesn't appear to be yours.

History about other vehicles is of no use to you today. Sell it and buy something useful...............

I Don't understand your reply, there are no other vehicles or history just the one I'm referring to, and it's perfectly functional used on a daily basis, the batteries I'm talking about are for the peripheries not essential for the running of the motor. I think you may be confusing me with someone else
you are liaising with.
you are liaising with.

Could anyone help me with a perennial problem that I have.
I'll keep it in short sentences it makes easier reading.
I own a Volkswagen california (a very small camper van for the uninitiated).
I have lived here for five years in a fourth floor flat.
The auxiliary batteries need charging once a month from a normal electricity supply.
The plug connecter is on the side of the van.
I can't get the camper van in the lift (only joking).
I tried a generator but police said no no no.
The batteries after five years of non charging are now in a deep sleep.
If I replace the batteries does anyone have a permanent charging solution for me?
I would be so grateful if you have.
Terence

Hello,
Great piece of news, I'll check it out and let you know. Even if it's negative perhaps I'll meet some like minded people who can point me in the right direction, thanks again Lo Pepin.

Hi
You are quite right, my response may seem rude but I am design engineer (mechanical & electronical) and I am not used to dealing with people who have no problem solving expertise. I apologise if I offended you.
Now for the solution to your problem:
Go to your nearest VW or other garage and have them release the batteries whilst enabling you future access: Take the batteries out and throw 2 away but keep one: Buy three batteries identical as far as possible: buy a sack truck from the brico (flat platform on 4 wheels with pulling handle): ask an electrician to make 2 cables with connections between all battery positives (cable1) and 3 negatives (cable2) so that the batteries are connected in parallel. Buy a heavy duty- 30 amp - battery charger. Put the batteries on the sack truck and take them to your flat. Plug the battery charger into the mains and connect to the battery stack. Repeat the charging every for 8 hours every month... Job done......... Richard

Hello Richard,
No problem, maybe I'm a little over-sensitive. Thank you for your very detailed solution. Not wishing to drive you mad! I have some update news from VW France where the vehicle was purchased. This may enlighten you as to why the batteries are difficult to remove. My understanding is, and I do speak French but this is technical French. The first series of this vehicle the first two years, everything was designed inside and out by VW this is no longer the case the fitting is now franchised out. The batteries used at the time were li-on not the case today. they were designed not to be removed
but part of the casing could, allowing inside removal by vacuum and new cells injected back the idea being you never had to buy new batteries but simply replenished the cells, all of these components were custom made for VW and can only be ordered and fitted by a VW garage which I intend to do hence the need to find a charging solution. Hope you found my long winded post interesting. Kind regards T.F

Hello Teaeff
If the batteries are Lithium Ion then they will not die despite not having been recharged for a long time.
I was involved with the company (Meco) who were contracted by Aldermaston Research, who invented the batteries, and can assure you of this. I suggest that you find a garage to allow a hook-up for a day or 2 and you will be active again.
Cheers
Richard
