"In advance" car rental

"In advance" car rental

Postby dottyp53 » Sat Nov 25, 2017 11:39 am

Hi

Any recommendations for a car rental firm who might do an airport pick-up/drop-off at a "reasonable" price in August next year? Some friends of mine are coming over, and thought they might be better booking way in advance...but for a fortnight, even the likes of DYS come up with a price of around £220, and Opencar are coming in at a staggering €470 (for a Focus-sized vehicle)!!!

I would recommend Wheels in Spain. We've used them for a couple of years now with no problems. For July 2017 it was about €150 per week for a Ford Focus. Fully comp insurance and no extras to pay.

Dotty

To be honest anything less than £/€ 300 for 2 weeks in August is very "reasonable" for a focus sized car, after all its Peak Peak season . . . . . if you leave it to later in the year I would expect it to ramp up to at least half as much again, if not double. . . we had to book latish for a car this August and cost £250 for a week, with very little choice of supplier.

I used Centauro.

Booked for March and July next year.
2 week hire in July 397euros for an automatic Ford Focus. With 1 additional
driver. They are currently doing 20% off ‘Black Friday deal’.

I have to deposit 1200 euros on pick up though preferable as I have excess insurance.

Remember to check quotations in euros and pounds.
Good luck.

I think I'll tell them to wait. They came this year and paid £90 for the week from 28th August (they booked it about 2 weeks earlier through DYS). That was through Firefly, full-to-full.

Centauro's website is quoting €465 for the 2 weeks, or Centauro through DYS is €327 for the same vehicle.

I'll get a quote from Wheels In Spain.

I know it wasnt August, but I booked a car with Firefly through DYS for June this year for 12 days. I booked about 8 months in advance for a price of €95. About 2 weeks before we flew I checked DYS again and the same car with Firefly was €8!! As they have free cancellation, I cancelled the original booking and took the cheaper one.

So my advice is tell your friends to book now as long as it is cancellable and then check nearer their flight date and if it's cheaper, cancel the first booking and take up the cheaper one. At least then they dont risk no cars being available if they leave it until nearer the time.
