Long term car hire

Long term car hire

Postby frequentflyer » Sun Sep 03, 2017 2:56 pm

I'm planning on coming over for a few months Sept - Nov and wondered if there are any car hire companies that do discounted rates for long term rental periods.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

TIA

We have found it is actually the opposite and you pay more for long term rental. You will find the best deals are short term rental through DoYouSpain from the airport. It means a trip a trip back to the airport every 3 or 4 weeks to change the car for another rental one but it does work out much cheaper.

This information is spot on. It's cheaper to rent from the airport for 30 days and rebook for a further 30 days and just return to swap cars. Good luck

I would choose your rental company carefully, Doyouspain have a tendency to direct you to the more scrupulous renters that can hold onto your deposits, charge you for imaginary damage etc

I agree with manxmunk and should have mentioned it.

We only use Firefly through DoYouSpain as most of the others have dreadful reviews. We have never had a problem (touch wood) with Firefly. The other possibility is Centauro, although we havent used them, they do have good reviews on the whole. If you click "uncheck all" under the list of car hire companies, then just tick the Firefly box it is easier.

Just a thought!
I do not know why hire companies are unwilling to give a hire contract for more than one month: maybe they think that they will never see the car again and all they have is the amount they blocked your credit card for - probably Eur1000.
However, Dickmanns and Centauro, at least, have offices in In Torrevieja. Maybe you could ask any hire company who has offices at the airport and Torrevieja whether you could just have a rolling contract and simply report into the Torrevieja office at the end of each month for a vehicle check, to save having to drive back to Alicante airport?

Have a look at Coys Rent a Car in Torrevieja. It's a Family Firm and are very helpful.

Car hire companies are bound by a ruling that they can only give a contract for maximum 84 days Easyjet have just been fined very heavily for exceeding that
If you look on Facebook there are plenry of local small firms that will do a deal for reduced price long term hire and they beat the big boys hands down I have had them for 40 euros per week all in and no big deposits or card blanking

It may be worth doing, although I actually like the occasional journey to the airport. We go along Lemon Tree road and N332 and enjoy looking at the salt flats and then take a trip into Santa Pola on the way back for a spot of lunch. The joy of it is you arent in any hurry like you are when going to catch a plane. :D
