Parking on the road

Parking on the road

Postby Andrew Hardy » Sun Nov 29, 2015 2:58 pm

A neighbour of ours said he found out that you have to pay a fee at the local council offices to get a permit to park on the road. does anyone know if this is so. We are not yet resident but when we are there we leave a car on the road as opposed to putting it on our driveway.

Never heard of that. All I know is that the cars need to be on a certain side of the road, depending on the markings on the road. It will upset millions of people if this were true.

You need a permit if you have a dropped kerb into a driveway or a garage. That's what the "Vado Permanente" signs mean. I think it cost around 100 euro a year.

Yes but some confusion has arisen on this before.
You only need to get a vado if you want to legally stop people parking across your driveway and these are generally in built up areas or around shopping areas. Most of the Villas around Quesada near the high street have them as do Guardamar and Torrevieja near shops and beach.
I checked this with Town Hall and if you have a driveway without a Vado permit the only thing is that if someone parks across your drive, the police have no powers to stop them.
No one around our area has a Vado or needs one as parking is not a problem.

Yes, sorry, I should have said if you want to keep it as Vado Permanente then you have to pay.
Quite a few of the houses up near Gama have them as they have dropped kerbs but no-one around us bothers either.

I live in Los Montesinos and pay for a Vado, which I think is certainly worth it as some people, usually builders etc don't care where they park. It cost me 48€ a year. Compared to other drives around me, I have always (nearly) got good access to the road. On a few occasions, a builder did block my drive, but one phone call to the police cost him 50€ parking fine.
Any visitors or friends that visit are allowed to park there with my permission

The times I've walked past the yellow Vado kerbs and thought "I wish we had a Vado equivalent in the UK' for all those times when inconsiderate neighbours obstruct my drive!

We have one at the end of our access street on El Raso. Not too sure why since it doesn't stop folk parking on the access street and blocking driveways.

We have a Vado because people used to park over our driveway to get on Tour buses and didn't return till the evening. We also get inconsiderate people leaving cars for 1/2 weeks to get on the Airport bus, taking up valuable parking space for people shopping in Quesada.
