Poor car hire service

Poor car hire service

Postby Super Simon » Sun Nov 13, 2016 10:57 pm

Hi ,
After hiring cars at Alicante and Murcia I was disgusted at the treatment from DoYouSpain.com and Record Rental cars at Alicante .
I hired through Record via DYS .com in October with ease ,picked the car up ,went through the usual up selling of insurance (fortunately I have an annual excess policy which cost £31 ) so no need for the extra expense .
When I picked the car up it was covered in scratches and small dents and I took plenty of pictures as proof .I was only over for 4 days so I took the full to full option on fuel and upon my return I refuelled at the petrol station outside Alicante airport .
To prove I had filled up the tank and to ensure I received my full credit I took a picture of the fuel gauge ,but as I was in a hurry I didn't take pictures of the car again .
Some 3 weeks later I received my cc statement to find I had no credit but I did have £147 pounds added to my account from Record !
I immediately sent an e mail to DYS.com and got an automatic reply .
I waited a further 10 days before chasing again then eventually got an e mail saying I had put dents in the car so the £147 was to pay for the damage .
There was no further damage caused and although I have sent all the pictures I have to both companies the silence is incredible .
I'm a believer that mistakes happen but it's how you fix them that counts and these 2 companies have shown they hide when faced with the truth .
I've contacted my insurers and cc company to ensure I'm refunded but these companies obviously feel they have your details and can drum up any false allegations and use your money / deposit to repair existing issues or boost profits !!
I know plenty of people have issues with car hire firms but this is the first I've ever had and I'm disappointed how this has happened but if I tell as many people as possible then who knows it might ensure they don't try it on with any one else in future .

Hiya Super Simon
My sympathies, I too have had a similar bad experience through DO YOU SPAIN but with HERTZ, Mine was fuel. Full to Full also, I filled up just before Alicante airport and pointed out to the guy that collected the car that it was full, he acknowledged it, but stupidly I trusted him and didnt take pictures of fuel gauge, and also in the rush misplaced the fuel reciept, needless to say I got a bill for it on my return to UK. Cant trust anybody, and I wont fall for it again!!

Had the same with Goldcar - luckily I had photos at the start as you did. I ended up having to email the CEO and got it sorted and refunded the same day. I will never use Goldcar again!

I also had a similar experience last year with Record but eventually got a full refund after I posted a bad review on Google reviews. I've never used them since and never will again. I now book with Wheels in Spain where full insurance is always included as well as additional drivers etc (i.e. there are no extras). It's more expensive but worth it to me for the peace of mind.

Be wary of Centauro, car on a fuel refund basis, returned 3/4 full as we were only over for 3 days, that was in march and guess what? no refund forthcoming. Ver soon I will have crossed all of the airport car hire companies off my list.

it would seem that poor service from car hire companies in the murcia /alicante area is pretty common i rented a car via DYS AND USED DICKMANS i returned the car on the 24 th october 2016 i am still waiting for my 950 euro deposit refund i have sent numerous e mails made numerous calls and still no cash although i did receive a refund on the fuel which was also less than it should have been although i have not persued this i definately will not use DICKMANS again.

Hi
I have used doyouspain.com for the last 3 or 4 years and have paid from 15 cents to 4 euros a day and mainly through either Record or Firefly. I don't think the fault lies with doyouspain.com rather the car supplier. I always have the car checked prior to leaving the car park and get the paperwork endorsed to say all is ok and have never had a problem. I recommend doyouspain.com to all on my community as they are sometimes ridiculously cheap. I also take out excess insurance cover in UK at a cost of £36 per annum and NEVER take the suppliers insurance.
Hope this helps.

I have used Doyouspain a lot and yes they are sometimes very cheap, but they are making money from selling people poor quality services. And therefore they should be held accountable. For example (and there are many more) if you buy something from eBay or Amazon you get some protection even though the item is sold by another party.
