PRIVATE CAR HIRE

PRIVATE CAR HIRE

Postby KimmiRocks » Sat Jan 02, 2016 9:44 pm

Hi guys. I really don't think that I can stand the stress of hiring a car at the airport again, especially as I can no longer find one with zero excess.

So, does anyone know of anyone that hires their private car out at a reasonable rate without hidden extra's? Thanks. Kim

Hi Kim, why don't you take out annual excess insurance? This covers any excess from any car hire company. I get it for around 50 Euros a year and have used it with no issues.

Hiya!

I took it out last year but I find it so stressful at the airport when they start with the scaremongering. My concern is that if the car got a knock that I'd still be liable for the 1200 Euros excess.

My sister had her car keyed while over last summer. She had rented with Goldcar and they charged her the 900 euro excess. They sent her the documents outlining the damage and she submitted these to the excess insurance company who paid out in full within a week. This was my only experience using the excess insurance but the whole system appeared efficient and prompt.

The problem I find is that if you have your own excess insurance you collect your car and then have to walk all the way back to the terminal to record the fact that the wheel trims are missing and there is a little ding here etc. Especially if there is a great big queue. You ask no damage all OK when you get the keys but their records are never up to date.
Always check the oil as if there is no oil in then it is your fault if damage occurs!
