We are driving home via Calais in a few weeks. Not in any particular hurry and would like a scenic route . Any suggestions please?

Our favourite is the western route up to Valencia, Zaragoza, Pamplona, Pyrenees, Bordeaux etc. Obviously the Pyrenees are beautiful and we like trying to identify the different birds. We have spotted black storks and vultures. Beats playing I spy! We also stopped off at Biarritz when travelling during the summer.

Just be careful driving through France - we found from Roscoff to Nantes there were vert few garages with petrol because of 'Les Greves'.

We normally use the same route as Tootandploot through the Pyrenees to go to Brittany, but find the longish stretch between Zaragoza and Valencia not too interesting and last June we towed a caravan up the west coast Valencia, Tarragona, Barcelona, Perpignan, Carcassonne, Toulouse and across to Bordeaux and up. On google maps its a couple of hours longer but we were in no hurry and it was an enjoyable trip.

Heard from our neighbours in France last night that the situation has eased considerably except in the bigger cities. You might find this website useful http://mon-essence.fr/ it lists the stations with petrol and is updated in real time. Enjoy your trip.

Calais,Rouen, Le Mans, Bordeaux, Bayonne, San Sebastian, Pamplona, Teruel, Zaragoza, Valencia

I do it in one go with toilet and fuel breaks. The nicest scenery is Spanish border to Zaragoza, really nice. Zaragoza to La Zenia is a bit souless
