Suma on car

Suma on car

Postby Curious » Mon Apr 04, 2016 3:46 pm

I no longer have my original car (written off) so cancelled the Suma with my bank. When I bought my replacement car I registered with the Suma office in Almoradi (as I am under Algorfa) and set up a new Suma for the car to be paid via my bank. My concern is that the bank will have two car Suma's as a direct debit, one cancelled and hopefully one newly set up. My fear is that the new Suma might be identified as the old one and be rejected. I think I caused confusion asking this at the bank as Spanish is not my strong point. Can anyone allay my fears.

if you have access to internet banking, you should be able to see which direct debits are active. If the old one is still there you can stop payments yourself.

Unless you have informed Traffico that the car is no longer on the road then SUMA will continue to charge you. To avoid this take a copy or originals to a Gestor and have them produce a Baja Permanante which will inform both Traffico and SUMA. Should cost about 50 Euros.

Thank you for both replies. Yes I have internet banking but only the old suma is on. The Suma office haven't set the new one up. I don't know at what point they do that. As far as Traffico and the Suma office are concerned, we are based in the UK and my insurance company dealt with the paperwork and the destruction of the car. I have emailed to confirm the relevant authorities are aware but have not had any reply. As this was over and above what I should ask from the insurance agent I don't like to be a nuisance and was just hoping that cancelling the original Suma and if I saw the new one was set up it would all be ok. It looks like I will have to get onto the insurance company again. Otherwise I will have to take the advice and get a Gestor. Thank you for your time.

Your SUMA bill is generated by the town in which the owner resides and runs from January to December and you will get the bill in December, not before.

It's useless to inform SUMA direct because they take their info from the Town Hall and the Town Hall take their info from Traffico. The tax is paid to the town Hall - not to the government as in the UK.

I have no doubt that you will get 2 SUMA bills unless you get a Baja Permanente.

Thank you grichn, having emailed my insurance broker twice now and not had a reply I think I am going to have to get myself a Gestor. The insurance broker organised the car to go to be destroyed and the salvage company paid directly to my bank but I have never received a Certificado de Destruccion. As we were in the UK for most of the time this was organised for us by our insurance broker and I assumed everything would be followed through on our behalf and Traffico informed but now I just don't know. If there is anyone on this forum who can recommend a Gestor in the Quesada / Benijofar area I would be very grateful.
