You're very welcome Pete, you provide lots of useful info on here & it's good to give a little back, I have no doubt you will remember & pass on the info to other forum users in the future, along with the wealth of knowledge you already have.

Did anybody use the clinic at La Siesta (as recommended on this post), to obtain their Spanish Driving License.

If so what exactly did it entail, I have heard from some people that you are given a mini health check, blood pressure etc. thorough eye testing (not just reading a chart), medication info required, and a co-ordination check. Others have said just co-ordination check, it depends where you go.

Do they really vary this much?

Hi all, I also would like to know if anyone has used the clinic at La Siesta to obtain Spanish Driving Licence and if they could supply details of what the process involves regarding medical checks etc

My British driving license expires in September 2018 as I will reach 70, my question is can I renew my British license without having a medical in the UK or do I have to get a Spanish driving license to replace my existing one.
As an aside in the Leader this week there is an article on page 15 about British driving licenses that states that UK Driving licenses will not be valid in Spain and the EU after Brexit and as a consequence Britain will become a third country under EU law and all rights, obligations and benefits of driving licenses would cease. Worth a read as there are other consequences as well.

First of all, where do you live? UK or Spain? You have to change the licence in your country of residence. You can't change one in UK unless you have a UK address which is your main home.
You also can't simply renew a UK one for a Spanish one when you reach 70. You have to exchange it for a Spanish licence after having your entitlement confirmed by DVLA in UK and have the medical (as Spanish drivers have to do).
Non EU licences from many countries can be used in Spain for up to 6 months. A UK or EEA licence should be exchanged for a Spanish one after 2 years of residency although you can do it earlier.
Pretty sure the Leader is repeating some scare mongering in certain British papers. UK driving licences have been recognised in many EU countries long before we joined the EU and so-called third countries can drive under the rules of individual countries . And the other way round? EU licences banned in UK?
I have a Spanish licence which was obtained by handing in my UK licence. Would that mean I can't drive in UK with a Spanish licence even though it was originally a UK one?
Seems rather silly to me. HGV drivers from Europe to UK and then other way? All goods suddenly coming to a standstill because no-one will have a correct licence?
Are the whole of the EU and UK suddenly going to invalidate licences?
We'll see.

I used the La Siesta Clinic last time I renewed (2yrs ago) ... they were very good and much more thorough (especially the medical/sight/hearing) than the previous 2. That may not be a good thing if you think you are 'on the limit' in some respect :D
N332 have put a video of the La Siesta procedure on line ... you may be able to get access to it by googling lasiestaclinic.com
The 2-handed co-ordination exercise is by far the hardest IMO, but don't be downhearted if you think you have done very badly ... I am pretty sure that it is virtually impossible to keep both cars on the road simultaneously for any length of time ! Mine was beeping away like mad, but the tester said something like "You have only scored 9000 penalties ... that is quite good!"
It is a very professional place all around ...can't recall the exact cost, about €70 I think ...

BTW, I hope no-one has to put up with what i had in changing to a Spanish licence at 70 .... the Trafico and DVLA between them kept losing my application and it took me FIVE YEARS eventually (I didn't chase them every week, but I needed a valid licence, so just renewed my UK one, while they were faffing around )
If you need help, I would recommend Amanda 965322866/625864373 ... she goes to trafico and ITV virtually every day, and she was the one who cracked it for me ...very nice lady, too :D
