The Moors and Christian ( Moros y Cristianos ) Festivities of 2014 in Guardamar will be on the 18th to 27th July.
9.30 p.m. QUEEN OF THE FIESTAS AND MAIDS OF HONOURS WITH ORGANISING COMMITTEE PARADE. Route: Labradores Square, Major Street ending in Constitució Square
10 p.m. OPENING ADDRESS by Mr. Vicente Rodríguez Ortiz
10.30 p.m. PRESENTATION OF THIS YEAR’S KEY REPRESENTATIVES, FLAG AND STANDARD BEARERS

11 p.m. Town Square: CORONATION CEREMONY OF THIS YERAR’S ‘DAMA DE GUARDAMAR’LADY OF GUARDAMAR. Miss Marta Zúñiga recreates, in traditional costume, the age old legend of L’ENCANTÀ, a spectacle of light, water and fire. A stunning performance that tells the story of a young girl who falls under a spell and can only be released by a brave warrior who first has to battle against the forces of evil, a dragon, in order to free her. The spell can only be broken if he baths her feet in the Segura river. The “happy ending” is that he kills the dragons and washes her feet in the river. They live happily ever after. (Historical note: the Lady of Guardamar sculpture dates from the 4th Century B.C.)
00.30 a.m. OPENING OF THE TRADITIONAL POPULAR FIESTA BARRACKS (Barraca Popular). Located at la Redonda Parking Site, behind the castle next to the Santa Anna Industrial Estate.
1 p.m. TRADITIONAL FESTIVAL ‘BELLRINGING’ and ‘FIREWORK ROCKET THROWING’ (Town Square)
10 p.m. FANCY DRESS PARADE AND COMPETITION: Music and fancy dress for anyone who wants to get involved. The Parades sets off from Major Street on the corner with Nord Street and continues along the País Valencià Avenue, ending in Jaume II Square. Competition bibs and rules can be obtained from the Tourist Information Office. Prizes will be given at the Popular Fiesta Barracks after the parade. BRUGAL FIESTA.
Midnight: POPULAR FIESTA BARRACKS
1 p.m. TRADITIONAL FESTIVAL ‘BELLRINGING’ and ‘FIREWORK ROCKET THROWING’ (Town Square)
8 p.m. CHILDREN’S PARTY on Av/ Els Pins and Sant Francesc Street
8 p.m. STREET PARADE led by our Guardamar del Segura Musical Group. The parade will include the elected ‘Dama de Guardamar’, her ladies in waiting, Captains, standard bearers and representatives of all of the Moors and Christians’ Organising Committee with Council representation. The parade begins at the Town Hall, down Enginyer Mira Street and end in the Reina Sofia Park.
8.30 p.m. MOORS AND CHRISTIANS FESTIVAL MUSIC CONCERT led by the Guardamar del Segura Music Group. During this act there will be a tribute to composer Mr. Pedro Joaquín Francés San Juan. It will be held at Reina Sofia Park. The programme includes the delivery of awards of the 2014 “Town of Guardamar” Short Story Competition.
Midnight: POPULAR FIESTA BARRACKS. Children’s games and foam party
1 p.m. TRADITIONAL FESTIVAL ‘BELLRINGING’ and ‘FIREWORK ROCKET THROWING (Town Square)
8.30 p.m. CHORAL CONCERT led by the “Aromas de Guardamar Choir”. Participate in this festival the “Chari Candela ballet”, “School of Dance Jacqueline Sánchez” , “School of Dance Sofía Sánchez” and Lara Dance
10.30 p.m. CORREFOCS. Moving Firework Festival by the MSM group “No somos monstruos” (We are not monsters”). Departing from the Town Hall, Miguel Hernández Street, Sant Francesc Street, Ausiàs March Street, Sant Jaume Street, Plaça d’Abastos, Enginyer Mira Street and ending in Constitution Square (Town Hall).
Midnight: POPULAR FIESTA BARRACKS. Children’s games and foam party.
1 p.m. TRADITIONAL FESTIVAL ‘BELLRINGING’ and ‘FIREWORK ROCKET THROWING’ (Town Square)
9 p.m. INFORMAL ENTRANCE of the “comparsas” of Moors and Christians on different street for Guardamar and ending in Constitution Square
Midnight: POPULAR FIESTA BARRACKS. Children’s games and foam party.
1 p.m. TRADITIONAL FESTIVAL ‘BELLRINGING’ and ‘FIREWORK ROCKET THROWING’ (Town Square)
8 p.m. FIRST “GUERRILLA”. The mock battle begins along Avda. Pais Valencià at the corner with Lepanto Street and continues towards the Town Square. The Christians are in front, expelled by the Moors who take possession of the town.
9 p.m. ENTRANCE TO THE CASTLE. Departing from the Plaça Llauradors the “Piratas” Comparsa enter the Castle. They are followed by the “Musulmanes” Comparsa who re-enact the conquering of the Castle and the town of Guardamar by the Moors. After this, both Comparsas parade along the Major Street towards Plaça Llauradors
NIGHT TIME: bar, music and dancing throughout the night at all of the designated “Comparsa” ‘fiesta barracks’.
1 p.m. TRADITIONAL FESTIVAL ‘BELLRINGING’ and ‘FIREWORK ROCKET THROWING’ (Town Square)
8 p.m. ‘SECOND GUERRILLA’. This mock battle begins, after warning gunfire from the Castle’s Gunpowder Bastion. The battle then moves along Carrer Castell, Carrer Gratitud, Plaça Llauradors, Carrer Major to the town square. The Moors are first, followed by the Christians, who now take possession of the town.
9 p.m. ENTRANCE TO THE CASTLE. The Comparsa ‘MUSULMANES’ maintain the Castle possession. The Comparsa ‘PIRATAS’ enter the Castle and once there, the Christians take power. The ´Trial of the Moorish Traitor´ then takes place which represents the re- conquest of the Castle and the City from the Moors by the Christians. Both Comparsas then march along the agreed route from Avda. País Valencià to Plaça dels Pescadors.
NIGHT TIME: bar, music and dancing throughout the night at all of the designated “Comparsa” ‘fiesta barracks’.
11:30 a.m. PARADES (Guardamar’s Music Society) with the “Dama de Guardamar”, her “Maid of Honour”, the Captains, the Flag and Standard bearers, members of the Moors and Christians Organising Committee, members of the various ‘Comparsas’. Departure from the Comparsas Headquarters in Colom Street, along Colom Street, Gratitud, Sant Josep, Enginyer Mira, Ausiàs March, Les Vinyes, Luis Rivera, Migdia, Vicente Ramos, Enginyer Mira and ending at the Plaça de la Constitució.
12:30 p.m. OFFICIAL RECEPTION OF THE CAPTAINS AND MEMBERS OF THE ORGANISING COMMITTEE IN THE TOWN HALL
1 p.m. TRADITIONAL FESTIVAL “BELLRINGING and FIREWORK ROCKET THROWING” (Town Square)
8 p.m. HOLY MASS IN HONOUR OF ST JAMES (celebrated by our Parish Priest, Father Reyes Rodríguez)
9 p.m. PROCESSION IN HONOUR OF ST JAMES. The procession includes local councillors, civic and military dignitaries, key members of the Moors and Christians Organising Committee, the ‘Dama de Guardamar’ with her Maids of Honour, the Captains, Presidents and various associations and members and participating Comparsas.
Route: Enginyer Mira Street, Plaça d’Abastos, Sant Emigdi, València, Major, País Valencià, Migdia, Vicente Ramos and back to the Church.
1 a.m. SEA FIREWORK DISPLAY. La Roqueta Beach
NIGHT TIME. Bar, music and dancing throughout the night at all of the designated “Comparsa fiesta barracks”

8.30 p.m. ENTRANCE OF THE MOORS departing from País Valencià Avenue corner on Lepanto Street. It will then move along País Valencià Avenue, Major Street ending corner of Major and Nord Streets. The Parade runs in the following order:
THE CHRISTIANS: CRUZADOS, MOSQUETERA, LABRADORES, EL CID, PIRATAS
THE MOORS: NÓMADAS, ABD-AL-AZIES, MOROS NEGROS “LA PLUMA”, TUAREG, MUSULMANES

There appears to be a second parade on the Sunday, July 27th at 8.30 p.m. again departing from País Valencia Avenue corner on Lepanto Street. It will then move along País Valencià Avenue, Major Street ending corner of Major and Nord Streets.

Don't forget the Guardamar Summer festivities start this Friday 18th July and the main Moors and Christians procession in Guardamar is on the Saturday July 26th at 8.30pm.
