Rojales has many legends and the legend of La Encantá is best known.
Based around the Cabeza Soler - large burial mound hill to the East of the town - the Enchated Princess is supposed to appear at midnight on the 23rd June.

In Medieval times, a moorish princess named Zulaida fell in love with a Christian prince.
Her father banished her to live forever inside the hill & once a year appears to ask someone to free her by carrying her to the river to wash her feet.
But anyone trying finds she gets heavier and heavier whilst being chased by monsters until he dies from exhaustion.

So each year many people climb the hill on that night where they light a bonfire and wait to see if she appears.
This year the ascent of the hill will be precede by a presentation in the theatre from 8 pm.

The walk & climb starts at 10pm opposite Mercadona & you will need to take a torch as the path up the hill is quite rough and unlit.
