Alicante airport

Alicante airport

Postby Jordy » Fri May 06, 2016 2:56 am

Hi all,

I have done many pick-ups & drop-offs of visiting relatives & friends at Alicante airport so I'm quite familiar with the usual procedure. However, an elderly neighbour who has mobility problems & has recently lost her husband has asked me if I would take her to the airport for her flight back to the UK. There will be herself, a couple of suitcases, hand luggage & a wheelchair to get her as far as departures where the airport staff will take over.
My question is: How close to the entrance am I allowed to park & for how long? Are there disabled parking spaces closer to the main entrance? If I use the public car park area I am faced with the dilemma of leaving her alone whilst I go searching for a luggage trolley, then having to push that as well as the wheelchair all the way across the bridge to departures.
If anyone has experience of anything like this I would appreciate any advice.

Since the introduction of barriers at the departure level, you can park free up to 15 mins.
(Still have to take ticket & authorise it before leaving parking area.)
And I think there are disabled spaces too.

When picking up family and friends or dropping off, if we want to take them inside the terminal, we go into the paid car parking as it's cheap at only a euro or so. However if the drop off is quick then the 15mins should be OK but I heard the overstay price/penalty is quite steep in comparison to the the general car parking charges.

Hi ...on a point of procedure...The ticket for the free 15 minutes does not have to be authorised by an external agency. You simply put the said ticket into the machine to exit provided you have not gone over the 15 minutes.

If you go over the 15 minutes don't drive to the barrier go to the machine and pay for the overstay first otherwise it causes chaos!

Thanks for the replies. As I intimated in my original post, I am familiar with the barriers, tickets & 15 minutes allowed.
What I was wondering was had anybody been allowed to enter the taxi/bus lane & been able to offload right outside the entrance doors without having to cross the road leading from the barriers first? Seems not so I'll just have to wing it & see how it develops once I'm there.

This was something I enquired about when I took my mum to the airport. Unfortunately there are no exemptions from the 15 mins, my mum has a blue badge and even that doesn't give her extra time to get unloaded and be walked in to the departure desk.
They advised me to drop her off first then go and park in the multi storey or pay the extra time fines !

Thanks for the info Doris. I have press-ganged a friend to ride with us so I can do just that, without leaving her stood alone for ten minutes or so. I don't know what I'd have done had I returned to the spot I'd left her to find her missing!
Roll on tomorrow lunchtime & it will be all done & dusted.
