Monarch versus CAA Advice and information

I rang on Monday and told their agent my problem and was transferred to a British guy who said there was no problem in raising a claim. He'd been dealing solely with Monarch claims all morning and, from what he said, I gathered that he'd been briefed on the collapse and knew how to process these

I guess it will be best to phone them then but can't really understand why the automatic system of disputing the payment online isn't working.

Jan,

I think the online process links to the vendor for an answer. In the case of Monarch, there aren't any staff left to do that

Yes but I read online that someone phoned PayPal and they said the dispute form procedure should still go ahead as it's in the system then and although it says that the Vendor has so many days to reply or rectify the situation, they know that obviously there will be no reply from Monarch but it has to be seen to be done and then the PayPal guarantee can take over and cover the refund.
Not sure if that's correct but it sounds feasible.

Did they say that you were now in the resolution system and does it show on your PayPal account that you have a dispute pending? I always worry when I phone through things like this, rather than do it online, that it may not be logged properly as it's down to one person to log all these disputes and human error can come into play. I suppose I trust computers more than people to get things right...just me :text-lol:

Please does anyone have relevant information re. claiming for lost Monarch flights in December 2017 which were booked using a Spanish Sabadell debit card [Mastercard] We successfully used the Martin Lewis template in the UK when Citywing went in to liquidation last year but that ticket was booked using a UK debitcard.
Many thanks for any info.

Have you tried asking Sabadell? I know in the UK Santander and Halilfax state on their home page for any customers who have booked future flights with Monarch using one of their cards, should contact them and they will deal with it.

I'm not sure whether it is the same with Spanish banks.

Just a quick update on our situation.

We booked before 15-Dec-2016 so apparently "may" be ATOL covered, though we don't have any record of an ATOL certificate sent by Monarch and I usually save everything! We are trying to find out if we really are ATOL protected but will wait until after Oct 15 since CAA are still dealing with the emergency cases.

Paypal refuse to cover due to their 180 days rule, though Martin Lewis site indicates they may be flexible. We will try Paypal again a couple more times just in case we get lucky! Paypal took the money via a direct debit from our UK Santander bank account, but Santander have said they can't offer any compensation.

Have today received an email from the Monarch Administrators though we will obviously be at the bottom of the pile of creditors so would be lucky to get anything at all.

Have already booked alternative flights with Easyjet though at a greatly increased cost. The cost of the Monarch flights was negligible in comparison.

It's become a bit of a project. Will pursue it for a while but suspect we'll just give in eventually!

Hi Everyone,
I booked with. Monarch a day before they went into liquidation ,I used by Barclays debit card, after looking at the website I wasn't hopeful for a refund, but I contacted the bank and just got a refund...hooray!!

So if you ave a UK account do try them, even if you paid by debit card.

It seems that Credit card, Debit card and PayPal payments should be refunded. Apparently the ones who booked before December can apply through Atol (as Monarch was Atol protected up to then) and the ones who booked after December 2016 (like myself) are covered by their payment method (although I would think those who paid by credit/Debit card at any time should be protected and refunded anyway)

My claim is going through with Pay Pal now - It appears that PayPal were waiting for the Monarch administrators to give them the official go-ahead to escalate the claims and by-pass the company/Monarch.

Will keep you updated on my claim.
