Big red beetle in my palm tree !

Big red beetle in my palm tree !

Postby Gand T » Sun Sep 24, 2017 1:28 pm

Hi, can anyone give me some guidance or advice about an infestation of big red beetles that are munching away at my palm tree in the front garden :( . I have been told that the council will fine me if I don't get the whole tree removed and incinerated, is this true? if so does anybody know who to contact to get it done.
Any info would be appreciated...........Thanks in advance.

If this is the critter it's the Palm Weavel

If it's like this then it is the palm weevil. You need to get an expert in straight away because they can infect, very quickly, other trees in the area. In most cases, it needs the tree to be removed at your expense.

I also have just fond weevils in my palm tree. I can definitely recommend Miguel Angel Mendiola. Tel 619203349. Mantenimiento De Jardines.

go to the garden centre and buy the poison and spray or pour into the crown right away. you may stop them from spreading until you get it removed.

Palm fronds need treating with insecticide on a regular basis to keep the palm weevil at bay. You can buy this at a garden centre along with a spray canister (about 10 litre). The most important part of the palm to treat is the crown where the new fronds are growing from. I have put approx one litre on each palm every two months from April until October. If you have a palm where the fronds are dying or falling over, it means that the weevils have got inside the tree. It may have to be removed and destroyed.
