Just make sure you run some water into the drain regularly. In these hot summer days, the water in the trap will
evaporate leaving a direct line for smells from the sewer into your bathroom. The water in the trap is a buffer
against this happening.

Plus all the pipes are interconnected. Try putting some cleaner down the plug hole in the upstairs bathroom as well and the sinks. We were getting it downstairs when having a shower upstairs but that seemed to fix it.

I agree, in this hot weather it's likely just coming back up from the main house drains.

In the bathrooms we are not using frequently, I've started to leave the bath or sink plug in......seems to reduce the amount of smell by a good bit - might be worth trying until the weather cools.

Regular use and flushing will sort it out, but it's such a waste of water !

Also when leaving for a period, if you put a few drops of olive oil in the toilet pan it forms a barrier and helps.

Check also your vent pipes from the sewer as if these get blocked the gases find somewhere else to escape!
