Prescriptions and Medications (Blood pressure & Statins)

Prescriptions and Medications (Blood pressure & Statins)

Postby shemarg » Mon Aug 22, 2016 11:18 am

I had to visit the new doctor this morning as on a routine appointment at the hospital last Tuesday my blood pressure reading was very high. As this was unusual the consultant advised me to get it checked at the doctor or pharmacy. This I did on Friday and it was still very high. The pharmacist sold me some natural tablets and advised me to avoid caffeine and salt and to go to the doctor as soon as possible.
I went this morning with trepidation especially as I couldn't take a translator. I have to say that whilst he was not particularly friendly he was thorough and took my blood pressure 3 times. As it was normal he has asked me to go to the nurse 3 mornings in succession to have it checked. I do therefore feel fairly confident in that he didn't just fob me off with the 3 readings he took. I did manage with my linited Spanish and I also took the reading from the pharmacy and the tablets they sold me

Hi valenciasman they are by Nature System and are called Tensium. They were 19.45 for 60 tablets. I got them from the pharmacy in central Quesada. The pharmacist said they were not as strong as the doctor would give me. He also advised me to avoid caffeine and salt. He even said when I go out to eat I should ask the waiter to have no salt in my meal

A Doctor will not put you on Statins for a small case of HBP they should look into the reasons for it first maybe a little too much weight has been put on or a bit more stress than normal

Thanks for help with Nature System and are called Tensium.. My BP isnt too bad but UK doctor immediately wanted my on Statins. I looked into the risks and decided to help myself, more exercise, change of diet. That was eight years ago, still here.

Freddie, I disagree. My doctor wanted me on statins and I don't have high blood pressure! 3 of my immediate neighbours have recently been put on them. Seems to be the latest trend! He also prescribed antidepressants to treat pain and when I was reading through the side effects 3 of the conditions where they should not be taken apply and the side effects are horrendous and can cause the very thing I went about. Now wasted the cost of a prescription cos I am too scared to take them.

The point I was trying to make is that statins are the flavour of the month at present and seem to be prescribed willy nilly

Yes agreed - I've heard that too and some say that they should not be prescribed unless you have high cholesterol that cannot be controlled or reduced any other way.
