Temporary SIP card?

Temporary SIP card?

Postby briret » Thu Jul 06, 2017 3:15 pm

I have retired and reached state pension age. My wife and I have S1 forms been to the national police and obtained the green Residencia cards.
Visited the "man under the stairs" at Rojales town hall and we were told that the SIP card should be available in a month.
I enquired if we would get a temporary card in the interim period and was told it was not possible.
Therefore my question is what happens should we need medical attention before the permanent card is in our hands?
Thank you in anticipation
Brian

We should have a sticky on this as the question has been asked quite a few times.
1. Contact the Overseas Health team at the International Pensions Centre in Newcastle on 0191 218 1999 to request an S1 form.
2. You will need your NI number and an address in Spain.
3. Newcastle will send the completed forms to the address you have given in Spain plus an EHIC which is valid for all EU countries outside Spain. Make a copy of the S1 to keep as they are taken off you.
4. Once you have signed the Register of EU foreigners resident in Spain and got your green residence card from a National Police station, take it plus your passport and UK EHIC cards to Rojales town hall and sign on the padron (the chap who does this is upstairs). You shouldn't need your deeds or a rental contract as the address will be on the residence card but take them anyway, just in case.
5. Once you have the padron certificate, take them downstairs to a lady who works for the Torrevieja hospital, She has a desk next to the lift under the stairs but I believe she is now only there on Monday and Thursday morning. The receptionist will let you know the exact times.
6. Now, you should be issued a temporary health card at this point but one poster on here has said they don't get them. They were certainly giving them out until February of this year but get used to the fact that Spain bureaucracy changes depending on if there is an R in the month or not.
7. You can use your EHIC at the health centre until your card comes through which you collect from the Rojales town hall (same lady under the stairs) about 2 months later.

TBH, getting on the health system and registering with a GP was one of the easiest things we had to do when we arrived here.
