Travel insurance

Postby DianeD » Thu Nov 05, 2015 8:24 pm

Hi, can anyone help with recommending a company for travel insurance for a friend of ours who is wanting to visit us for a month or so but has pre existing medical conditions and is finding the cost of travel insurance just too expensive. He is mid 70's and has had a by-pass some years ago and recently had a pace maker fitted. Thanks

Diane

We have used Staysure 0800 054 2226 with pre-existing conditions. Worth a try!!

Or try Saga. My Mum is 91 (with loads of conditions) and has just been on a cruise round the Greek islands. Saga was the only one with a reasonable price.

'Just Travel Cover' is another good value pre-conditions insurer. In the past I have had both Staysure and Saga policies but on the last occasion Just Travel Cover was by far the cheapest. Price very much depends on duration of trip and can be really expensive for longer trips. I usually strip out all the other optional bits of cover and only concentrate on the medical side to keep prices down, but that won't suit everyone. BTW I am not recommending any one of these companies as thankfully I have never needed to make a claim so can't comment on the service you would get.

Try Medical Travel Compared too. Have given us way cheaper than other comparisons.

I was assuming the visitor was coming from the UK. But in any case don't you have to be a UK resident for all the companies mentioned? The policies I have seen all state that the journey has to start from the UK.

I have been with Staysure for years - but after a half hour telephone call, to report another condition, I just about lost the will to live!! Fifteen months ago I had a hip replacement - which has been marvellous - no ill effects and they spent a good twenty minutes questioning me on that! What I had rung up to report were blood clots on the lungs (something which could have killed me and cost them a fortune if I had been abroad at the time!) + the fact that I was now on Warfarin + plus by how much would my policy rise, cost wise, but they did not seem very interested in the latter.

In order to stop me suffering from high blood pressure - to add to my woes - has anyone recently taken out a new policy which was pretty straight forward? I need to speak to a person and not fill in on-line forms (which do not cover details) !!:text-thankyouyellow:

I spoke to "Just Travel" - who sends e-mails out in the name of "Paying too much.com"

Considering that I was with Staysure for a long time - and they wanted to give me the third degree for around half an hour - until I felt that I was losing the will to live, Just Travel only asked question for 15 minutes!! They seem to have the sort of cover that I want, but seemed determined to push the single journey insurance ..... which was around £175 in my case. I asked about the annual insurance ....... Europe only ...... and was told £250, which worked out a lot better!! So after reading through all the small print on their policy I will most probably go with them.

Thank you, everyone, for your suggestions :text-thankyouyellow:
