History of Rojales in 5 minutes

I don't know if I'm posting this in the correct section, but I found this article very interesting.
A very brief history of the area:-
8th century B.C. During Iron age a small village was created in Cabezo del Estanyo. Now located in the Rinconada place.

7th century B.C. Phoenician city “La Fonteta” was founded along the coast at the end of Segura river.

5th century B.C. Cabezo Lucero. Foundation of Iberian village and necropolis in the hill near of the river

3th century B.C. The area is incorporated in Roman Impire, between Illici (Elche) and Carthago Nova (Cartagena), it was built via Augusta, the largest roman road in Hispania, 1500 km from Cádiz to Pyrenees.

From 2th century B.C. to 7th century B.C. The surroundings of Orihuela rule be Visigothic kingdom.

713 Tudmir Pact. The Visigoth king Teodomiro and the governor of north Africa Abdelaziz surrender the zone to muslim domination.

10th century was built in Guardamar the Caliphal “Rabida”. Is one of the most important discovers as the dunes were covering the site and leaving the current archaeological site hided for centuries. It is one of the oldest preserved rabidas of the Islamic West.

In the beginning of the 14th Century, Rojales village adopted its current name (Rojales-Roxales) and location. It was built a collection of urban hydraulic monuments, which split the village on both sides of River Segura. This defined the village’s physiognomy.

1692 Guardamar, with Rojales, was segregation of Orihuela and it has a status of Village.

1720 The wetland area was dried and new croplands were created by “Cardenal Belluga”.

1773 Rojales gets the independence of Guardamar and increase the population thanks to a breakthrough in its agricultural activity, which played a very important role in the economy.

1790 Finished the Brige of Carlos III, which replaced other more vulnerable structures made out of wood.

1829 An earthquake struck the region of Low Segura and many villages like Rojales, Benejúzar, Guardamar, Almoradi or Torrevieja that were almost completely destroyed.

1936 – 1939. Spanish civil war. In Rojales were built trenches in the “Cabezo de las Particiones”. At the moment, you can see these infrastructures of war very near to the town.

1973 The beginning of a dream of “Justo Quesada” was born. He began the construction of Ciudad Quesada which currently has more than 16.000 habitants. It has a branch of Rojales council with public services.

1978 Spanish constitution. Franco the dictator died three years before.

1991 The borough of Rodeo renovates 15 caves that nowadays have become an space for handicraft workshops, exhibitions and craft market. It is located in renovated spaces owned by council of Rojales.

2014 First “Rodearte”, an event with an historical recreation of the customs and traditions of Iberian settlements. Many activities took place such as workshops, art market, visual shows with choreographed battles and dance performances.

2015 The proyect of the restoration was coming during this year. The Mengolero exhibition hall have a new web and a lot of emergent artist was coming in this year.

2016 We opening the residence
