Hi Everyone can you help?

Hi Everyone can you help?

Postby Flamencox » Thu Feb 16, 2017 12:19 pm

Hi everyone, although I have had my holiday home for 9 years, I have not ventured further than local surrounding areas, as I lost my husband 7 years ago. And my confidence too
However now want to enjoy local activities like taking the bus, and I am over for Easter and would love to see the processions in Rojales can anyone tell me what days over Easter they will be and what time they start, and anywhere else you would suggest was worth a visit with my friend when we are over.
Many thanks to all and so please I have found this site x

Hi Flamencox & welcome.
Here is the bEaster programme for last year & is likely to be the same this year - just change the dates :)
Tomorrow, Sunday 20th - Palm procession 11.30am from Health Centre to church
Tomorrow, Sunday 20th - Mantilla Procession 7.00pm from church, round old town and back to church.
Monday 21st - Procession of the flagelation 9.30pm from the church, round town & back.
Wednesday 23rd - General procession 10pm from church, round town & back
Thursday 24th - Silent procession 10pm from church with town blacked out & silence except for occassional drums & distant horn - quite eerie. Procession breaks into 2 routes led by Mary & Jesus. They then meet up by the church, before Jesus & 2 thieves are carried up to the 3 crosses. Where at midnight they re-enact the crucifiction stringing the bodies up on the crosses. Followed by all night vigil there with hundreds staying there all night.
Friday 25th (Good Friday) - 8am process back to town from the crosses.
Friday 25th (Good Friday) - 7pm Procession of the Internment with all the floats and bands from the church, round the town and back.

Sunday 27th (Easter Sunday) - 11.30am in the town centre the re-enactment of the resurrection. Choir & priest process from church to town centre where Jesus is standing by the bank. Mary arrives and approaches the priest, then sees Jesus and all the church bells start ringing, the band starts playing and tic-a-tape - small papers saying 'Christ is risen' - pours down on the crowd whilst either balloons or doves are released & often the crowd will spontaneously shout 'Hallelujah' too.

Thursday enactment is of course very late - particularly if staying upall night at the crosses - but, like the Sunday re-enactment, very moving.

I return to Torrevieja 23rd March for the wknd with a friend who's never visited before - is there anything on that weekend (Procession, etc?) - down at the Marina or elsewhere? - also can anyone confirm has the Torrevieja street market moved to the new Site yet? or will it still be at the same place for Fri 24th March

Yes, the Easter processions are in Rojales and the health centre is the one in Rojales - near the cemetery and police station.

Where is the best place to park in Torrevieja if we go to the carnival? Was thinking Haberneras but it looks quite away from the start? And how long does it take to get round?

CARNIVAL IN TORREVIEJA. If you go early you should get parked at the seafront. We always went early and had a meal first. Otherwise look for a parking place near the Windmill and walk down. Sorry can't remember how long it takes but it's very colourful with touches of humour. The Sunday Afternoon is best unless you want a late night. Save the late nights for the Easter Processions in Torrevieja. Again something you must see. The best in the area.
