Hi Steve and Mo
Good on you!
We have just purchased a property in Quesada but we won't complete until May. It will be our holiday home for now as there are still lots of things we love about UK and I would miss my two little granddaughters too much, but we are definitely looking forward to spending a good amount of time in Spain.
Good Luck with your search and your house move!

We came over last June, sold the house and took early retirement. Jumped in the car and drove over with what we could carry. Looking back, it seems absolutely crazy but it all worked out and we have now bought a house in Quesada.
As mentioned, finding a long term rental can be difficult. I naively believed that as there are so many empty houses in Spain, we would be spoilt for choice. In fact it was very difficult to find anything and we really were very lucky.

great enthusiasm for a new adventure, and spain is great, but don't rush in like it sounds like you are doing. even if you buy the cheapest property in the uk as reserve to stay at if needed, and bring an EHIC card, will offer you the chance to keep most health care costs funded by the uk. otherwise how are you going to pay for any future care needs in spain? we have our own place, are here 6 months a year and enjoy the change from one country to the other. when in the uk, we have a motorhome and enjoy summers touring around. for us 2, we believe we have the best of all worlds. good luck in what you do.

We have thought of most of this.
Ive been googling websites for long term rents for about two years, theres plenty to choose from round Murcia/Alicante. I had noticed the seasonality of it re the june-sep period.
We know we wil like it, and we might even consider applying for Spanish Citizenship after 5 years. We would have fled to Spain 20 years ago if we could have.
Once all the Pensiosn kick in, we will be fairly well off. We dont need to leave any money to anyone, my lad is etablished, his intended is fro ma rich family Theres no grandkids, and if there is we'll coem back to UK. The wife has a cousin in Birmingham, she will come over, i have a best mate, hioem and his mate wiull come over. As long as we can get equivalent health care, ther ereally is niothing we need from the UK anymore. But we dont want to own any property in UK or Spain. Been there done that, had 3 homes at once stage. 2 rented out, dont want the responsibility anymore.
And since we are UK citizens, if , once we are both fully retired, we need to go come back to UK in the unlikely event we run out of moneym thats fine. We turn up and say "Her you are, were pensioners, were Uk citizens, were homeless, im a cancer survivor, and were your problem".
Like I said, this isnt spur of the moment, weve been talkingabout this for 20 years. At some stage we might even buy a motorhome after a while and just drive round Europe for a couple of years. We want to be able to do spontaneous again, like you can when you are teenagers. We intend to have a good time on the money for ten years. Otherwise what was the point of 40 years hard work ?
Life is a brief flash of light between two long darknesses. you dont get another go, and theres no point being the richest corpsei nthe graveyard. Whats the poitn of working hard for 40 years, getting rich, and leaving it to someone else to enjoy.
Like I said, we know exactly what we want, we just need a bit of a road map.

My family has lived here nearly a thousand years, I had an ancestor who was a Guard at Lincoln Castle in 1221 AD.
There's defeinitely a point where its time to find new pastures I had another ancestor fled Boston to the USA in 1620 with his family and became a Hellfire and Brimstone Preacher, he knew it was time to move on. (Althought the native Indians did kill him and all his family, except the two daughters..... )presumably we're safe from Spaniards (I hope they dont remember my ancestors killing a few in the Anglo-Spanish War of 1761,,,)
