Job opportunity
Job opportunity
by Lollypop28 » Sat Dec 02, 2017 12:25 pm
Hi I have just purchased a villa in Rojales and due to move permanently from UK in July 2018. I will be looking for employment ideally in a clinic/ medical center as a Registered nurse working 2 to 3 mornings a week. I am currently working as a Practice nurse in the UK and have a diploma in chronic disease management. I have been qualified for 28 years. I would be grateful for any advice. Thank you.

Right, I don't want to put you off (honest) but my daughter (also a qualified nurse) looked in to this a few years ago.
Firstly, there are many unemployed nurses (and doctors) in the Valencia region which is why many of them go abroad to look for work.
Your UK qualifications will be recognised in Spain but they would need to be officially translated into Spanish before you could get on the register. You would also need to speak Spanish to work in the Spanish NHS.
Nurses in Spain are generally surgery or hospital based only. Aftercare is not something they do as they assume a person will have family around to provide help in the home. The same in hospitals. Torrevieja hospital allows close relatives to stay with the patient and even provides a bed for them. Most hospitals expect the patient's relative to assist with feeding, cleaning and so on as the nurse is there to provide medical help.
Alternatively, there are agencies you can contact who provide home assistance and care to the large expat community. You could try registering with one of them and they should assist you in getting all the paperwork done.
Probably not the type of nursing you are looking for but it could be a start.
