Hi, the above information is really useful, especially the bits not related to food. We (2 of us) have just spend nearly 9 weeks out there, I kept a log of our spends out of curiosity . and it came to 1513.34 euros. Hubby drinks wine every night, and I shopped quite a lot at the Johnsons the English shop. We don't have a car. We ate out at the Chinese, and lots of coffees and toasties on the sea front. Included in that was purchases for our house, ie 155 euros for a set of drawers, and other bits and bobs. Hope this helps.

You have still got regular costs like Electricity, water and possibly gas. You have to pay fees for sewage, rubbish removal, community charge (probably), car tax, car repairs, the MOT equivalent, fuel, food, medical costs etc. You also have to consider maintenance costs for the house and have money for when the washing machine etc breaks down. Then you have your socialising costs.
We don't live out in as Spain all year, so my finger in the air answer would be that if you presently need £20,000 a year to live the way you want to live in the UK, maybe you might need £15,000 in Spain.
I think the big saving in Spain is on the social side. You can buy small cans of beer in the supermarkets for between 25 and 45 cents. Cheap wine can cost a Euro a bottle. A Chinese meal can be had for 15 euros for two people including a bottle of wine. A very nice three course meal with wine in other restaurants can cost as little as 30 Euros for two. To enjoy that, you have to have disposable income.
On another note, I do not know how easy it would be to get part time employment, bearing in mind the jobs market in Spain.
This is just my own thoughts. Others will know much more. If you are keen to do it, your determination might make it work regardless, but you should do the math.

not easy to get part time work here unless you are bar trained or fluent in the language, health care can be difficult but you can pay into the system for now but who knows after Brexit!!!!! Private health care is quite expensive and rises each year and they do not take into consideration any existing conditions..... we have been here 13 years and reckon you need about 1500 euros a month to be comfortable and remember you have to plan for unforeseen happenings!! Good luck

Why do people buy private medical cover ? The spani Government offer it at €60 per month per person and it includes all existing conditions.

Only once you have been here as a resident for 12 months or more. You cannot take out residency if you are under pensionable age, don't have contracted work, are not registered disabled, are not a pregnant woman or under the age of 18 without having private medical insurance.
The convenio especial can only be applied for once the 12 month residency rule is met so you have to have your own medical cover to get residency in the first place.
