Mozys - your thoughts please

Hi All
Just a quick intro – I’ve been spending the last few winters not far from Benissa [north of Benidorm] but in Feb I’ll will be moving to Benimar with a view to spending subsequent winters in the general area of Rojales – initially renting and hopefully later buying.
Although so far I’ve only stayed in Benimar for a few days [early November], my general impressions are very favorable – in particular – amazingly no problems with mozys even though I seem to be a magnet for them
Is this normal? Does the municipality spray on a regular basis? - I was told that they are far worse in La Marina – is this because there isn’t the money for spraying?
Which urbanizations have the least mozy problem? - looking at the map I’m guessing that they are probably more of a problem in Lo Crispin than say Benimar.
Thoughts anybody?

from what I read on various forums, it's not so much about a favourite urbanization, it is more to do with the amount of standing water around where the mosquitos lay their eggs. I have a property on La Marina, and I can honestly say that I have no problem with mossies, (mind you my last two wives didn't like me either). Seriously though, I always have marmite on my toast/bread which I found out years ago helps repel the little buggers. You can always buy the mossie sprays and keep them at bay with them, regarding the council spraying areas, I believe that La Marina haven't had a problem with that.

You state that Mosquitos do not bother you then you are just lucky or you are more likely taking B vitamins it is a medical fact by taking vitamin B1 alone will keep them away this is because in doing sow we give off a scent that is only detectable by mosquitos they will not come near you! I found this out it takes around two weeks for it to begin to work after using my first bottle I forgot to get more I soon remembered after my first bite! now no more bites for me.
Salud.

I live in Benimar. I don't think it's any better or worse than anywhere else really. The mozzies were quite noticeable this year, though but that's probably because I've added a lot more plants in the garden.

I’ve had some bad summers in La Marina with mosquitos but other’s with minimal bother. Each year can be different. Does anyone find those plug- in devices to actually work? They advertise they work “even with the windows open” In my experience they only slightly reduce the problem. I always thought the issue was worse near the salt lakes ? Mind you I’ve spent time in the north of Spain (Basque country) and had many a summer bite there also !

I believe that leaving windows open without mosquito/insect nets over the windows is asking for an insect party lol. The plug-ins may be OK but with insect screens on all external doors/grills and windows there's no real need for plug ins. I wouldnt like to think that the mosquitos or other insects can actually get in through an open window etc.but I'm a bit paranoid!.They don't get through my defences!

I don't think that's true. Where is the medical evidence? Neither B1, B12, Brewers Yeast or other things "will keep them away". Even deet isn't 100% mozzie-proof.

Avon skin so soft always works for me. If you do get bitten, an ASPEVENIN is very useful. Sucks out the venom and stops the itching.

I have an Aspevenin, but I find it's totally ineffective. Not sure whether it's just down to me using it "too late"...but I've never seen even a trace of venom...just the round welts left for 20 minutes!!!

I think it depends on the person. My husband has tried vitamin B, spraying with high strength Deet, wristbands, citronella candles and eats marmite occasionally but still gets bitten to death and comes up in great big red spots which last for days, whereas I only get the odd bite here and there which quickly disappears. He is a mossie magnet but they obviously cant stand the smell of me!
