Newbie needs advice on schools
by Lilypod18 » Mon Apr 10, 2017 3:36 pm
Hi we are hoping to move to Spain in the next few years and Quesada looks like the kind of area we could settle.
We have two children 5 and 9 and can't find any posts re schools and education - maybe I am searching wrong.

Hi Tia,
If it is a permanent move than you should really integrate the children into the local community via the Spanish school system. Education standards are in general very high compared to the rest of Europe and at that age they are like sponges, soaking up all the language and culture that will stand them in great stead in the future. It will also help with your own integration...and Spanish skills!!!
Good luck

Thanks for the replies. I wouldn't be upto home schooling so a state school would be our chosen method.

Hiya Lilypod18,
We are hoping to move out next year. Our daughter is 10. We are trying to find out as much as we can about schooling too. Ideally I would like her to go to a Spanish school, as I would love for her to really learn the language. Look fwd to chatting. xx

Hi Lilypod, We moved to Quesada in Feb and my honest answer is (nothing) We (I) have literally has no luck what so ever, even posting on here. (Note everyone is helpful) but I don't seem to be getting anywhere. For us it's a little less worrying as our son is only 2, but could well be going to school next year. We work from home so it is not a major issue at the moment.
I am hoping to get back on the case soon, so happy to update if I can figure it. If I can't then I'm hoping to find someone to help me!!! There doesn't seem to be any easily accessible information on where to go and how to enrol online at all. At the moment our Spanish is extremely minor (we can ask for bags when shopping) Funnily enough when we were in Murcia it took just one day to get him in to a nursery and it was ever so simple.

Hi all - the demand for info on schools in Quesada seems to far outpace the supply We are also planning to move to Quesada this fall from Iceland with our 10 year boy, he is fluent in English but our initial thoughts are to enroll him in a Spanish school - in line with the reasoning above from Nolant. For once Google does not seem to be able to come up with all the answers so we would love to hear from anyone that has first hand knowledge of the schools in the area, how to find them, pros and cons of each (if more than one option) and about the enrolling process.
All the best

Yes agree it is difficult to find out information about schools. This is Spain things are done differently here. There are no ofsted reports or glossy websites.
We arrived 3 years ago in Quesada and needed to find a secondary
school for our son. We went to the town hall there is a education department. They were very helpful, We translated what we need to say in Spanish but they broke in English. It all about making the initial effort on your side. There is a nursery, primary and secondary school in Rojales.
I was speaking to a lady the other day she wanted information about primary education, for her grand children she told me she went to the school gates and spoke to ex pats parents she was delighted with all the news she had to tell her daughter.
